Circuit City
Why did the circuit city employee cross the road? To get to the resistor on the other side! (We know it's a bad joke)
Welcome to the 12th installment of Coding Tech Tuesdays 😎! Today we will be discussing Python packages, and the collapse of Circuit City!
Coding Concepts 🧑💻:
Today, we are talking about how to install Python packages!
A Python package is sort of like a ¨bundle of functions¨, in that you do not have to implement them yourself!
Packages can be many things, such as website-backends, machine learning tools, and much more!
This week we will be talking about how to install these functions, and next week we will be implementing them!
In Python, there are a few tools you can use to install packages! However, pip is the ultimate tool that most people use!
For example, if we wanted to download the requests library, which allows you to make API calls, we could run (in the terminal):
pip install requestsYour Weekly Dose of Tech News 🗞️:
This week’s tech news is cancelled, due to a lack of actual tech news this week (😂🤣).
Failed Businesses/Scam of the Week 🚀:
Circuit City
Circuit City was once one of the largest electronics retailers in the United States, with over 700 stores across the country.
The company had an extensive selection of products, ranging from computers and televisions to home appliances and video games.
However, in 2009, Circuit City went bankrupt, with many attributing its failure to competition from online retailers and big-box stores.
Circuit City was founded in 1949 by Samuel Wurtzel, who had a vision of creating the first national electronics chain.
During its heyday, the company was well-known for offering competitive prices and knowledgeable staff. In addition, the company offered a wide selection of products, which made it a popular destination for consumers looking for the latest electronics.
Unfortunately, Circuit City was unable to keep up with the changing times. As online retailers and big box stores began to gain a foothold in the market, Circuit City was unable to compete on price.
Furthermore, their decision to move away from knowledgeable staff and focus on reducing costs further alienated their customers.
In addition to competition, Circuit City’s failure was also attributed to their poor financial management. The company was highly leveraged, meaning it had a large amount of debt relative to its assets.
This left the company unable to invest in the necessary technology and marketing needed to keep up with competitors.
Ultimately, Circuit City’s failure was due to a combination of factors.
The company was unable to keep up with changing market trends, had poor financial management, and was unable to compete with online retailers and big box stores.
With the rise of e-commerce, Circuit City was unable to remain a viable business and went bankrupt in 2009.
That is the end of today’s newsletter! Next week we will FOR SURE have tech news, and we will learn how to import ant use packages (in Python)!
