Today I took and passed the 1z0-816 with 88%.
Due to the COVID-19 crisis the testing centres were closed, and I had the reschedule the exam I had booked. They have reopened now, and I took the first slot I could at the nearest testing centre ('nearest' being 2½ hours away). When I got to the testing centre, (a little early) I was told that the testing room was too small for more than one person (social distancing measures), and there was a test booked for half an hour before mine. That meant I had to wait for 2½ hours for the other test taker to finish before I could write
. I got to start just past noon.
To prepare, I took the Oracle course, which was a great intro to many of the topic such as streams. Don't expect it to properly prepare you in any way for the exam, though! After that I studied through the Enthuware tests. I have been truly, thoroughly impressed by the quality and relevance of the Enthuware tests. I didn't get great scores on the Enthuware tests, as they are very details-oriented and quite a bit tougher than the real thing, but they served me
very well for the real exam.
The test itself was full of streams, which didn't daunt me, as I spent a huge amount of time and energy practising with streams. That effort really paid off in the exam. I didn't get many questions on modules; I was expecting them to be one of the main evens so to speak. I didn't prepare for the Java Security Guidelines questions as thoroughly as I should have — I would put more effort into those if I had to write the test again. For the rest, as there are so many topics, there weren't too many questions on each topic, though they were all represented. I got a few questions on annotations; I wasn't up to scratch on applying them to lambdas, but the rest I knew.
In all, it was a long and exhausting day, but I was happy with my mark
