Lucky! (I think.)

Day 2 of the festival had this one carnival game where you attempt to toss a ball into any number of cups for prizes. I thought I might support a school club, so I put down a hundred yen and made my three tosses. Two were so close to a specific cup that I figured I could actually pull it off now that I had the range, so I gave them another 100 yen and nailed it on my first throw. Whereupon I realized I had made a severe miscalculation: the prize for that cup was your choice of CDs. A CD for 200 yen (about a buck-eighty) is certainly a good price, but as I looked over the selection I realized they were all Japanese groups I'd never heard of (and one Backstreet Boys CD). I had no idea if any of them were any good. In the end I did what any male in my situation would have done... I picked the CD with the best-looking chick on the cover. That was Kudo Shizuka's "Current", which was... well, she's not terrible, at least, but she's not really my style either.

Interested in taking advantage of my lucky(?) streak, though, I put down 500 yen (20 throws) and started aiming for the cup with a prize I knew I'd actually want: a Game Boy Advance. (At least, I think so; someone remind me if Japanese GBAs will take American cartridges?) I was getting close towards the end, even bounced a couple off the edge, but no luck... that one was more distant for a reason. Since I still had to find something to eat for the night, I bailed rather than lose my last bit of daily cash, but if they'll still up today I may make another attempt now that I've restocked.

As a side note, I won't be online tomorrow. Expect an explanation when I get back.
