Alien Infiltrator
Ikti was one of the best the Serrate Hive had to offer. Then one day, she died and never came back.
What could have caused this? What kind of lasting damage could this have caused? Is any of this actually explored in the game? Who knows?! Why am I asking so many questions???
So What's The Game Actually
Experimental combo between a top down shooty game and a real-time strategy (with pause available to do orders on the in-game map)
(whether it actually succeeded in being either is up to you to decide)
Expected runtime of maybe 10 minutes or 20?
Progress is saved after missions are complete, but not during missions.
Uh There's Not Much Here
jam time makes fools of us all
A Note for MacOS Users
I don't have an Apple Developer license so I would advise looking up this information on how to run the game: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/export/running_on_macos.html#ap...
(Also, I don't have a Mac, so if it's broken, there's not much I can really do to help, sorry!)

played through a bit of the tutorial before it crashed on me, i think i spawned to many friendlies. but from what all i could gather, pretty simple and fun! great principle and reminded me of pikmin. would love to see this explored more in a similar path, puzzles and such. will be sharing this around for sure and downloading it as well
RAHHHHHHH MORE CLOUDBIRD WOOOOOOOO
Great job! Can't wait to see more!
Hey I have a idea for a new unit the nest breeders they act like the main breeder but they don't fight so they always good for larger areas that you can't get to. also can you change the controls on moving the map because when I moved the map it causes my character to move as well
This game tickled my brain sm I drew a new bug alien sona inspired by it (nsfw link ofc). Ty for making this u rock
oh my god i love it thank you for sharinggggg
XD i wouldn't pass up alien pussy like that. also i like the comedy of this game to.
This is a very cool little game.
TL;DR: A wonderful mix between RTS and a Twinstick shooter. Very rich lore for a gamejam game, wonderful art style. Gameplay feels a bit lacking, but I have hopes the dev will continue working on it.
I like it, keep an eye on it.

______________________________________________________________________________
First off, before I continue, I should say that from what I understand, the developer wants to continue working on this game; as such, this review might become outdated at some point, and the issues stated in it might be patched out. Now onto the review:
______________________________________________________________________________
Hive Commando is quite an interesting game. A mix between a real-time strategy game and a twinstick shooter that has honestly been done quite well, even if it is rough around the edges.
First off, the shooting: while it feels overall good, there is a bug that has annoyed me quite a bit, that being how if you stand near a top wall, the projectile will collide with said wall and get destroyed. This has been quite an annoyance to me when falling back from a room, as I would try to shoot back, only to have my shots eaten by the walls, forcing me to stick to the lower wall of the corridor to shoot back, and making it harder to dodge incoming fire. There is another issue I had with the shooting, but I will get into that a bit later.
Second, the RTS mode. It has been quite well executed in this game, and I had a lot of fun using the little bugs to crush my enemies. But as with the shooting, I had a few issues with the RTS mode too; the biggest one was that there was no real way to heal up your little bugs. They do not have any sort of regen, nor do you have access to any healing sources to get them fixed up. I get they are supposed to be disposable, but at the same time, the Starcraft tryhard in me suffers every time I lose a unit.
Now we can talk about the elephant in the room, the very small amount of content found in this game. The game has a total of 4 levels, with 2 units you can use, 2 different types of enemies (3 if you count the workers in the tutorial), and 5 cutscenes(lewds included). There is really not much here, but I will say that what is there is enjoyable, and I do believe that the time I spent playing this was time well spent. And I do understand that this is a gamejam game and that they are made in a short amount of time, but the small amount of content is still noticeable and kinda just leaves you wanting more.
Something that I had zero issue with is the art style of the game. I adore how the characters and units are drawn; they are all so cute and adorable, I just want to hug them. And as I said in my review of the dev's other game, Cold Vessel, I simply find it appealing and very pleasant to look at. Something about how everything is drawn makes me happy.
For the sound design, I think the developer has done quite a good job with it. I quite enjoy all the fleshy sounds, and the little ding the eyebots make when they explode is very pleasant and makes me want to blow up even more of them. The only thing I found odd sound-wise is that the metal doors in the levels do not have any sounds, while the ship/tutorial fleshy doors have sounds.
Story/lore-wise, this game has quite a bit for how small it is. I have enjoyed talking to each character and listening to every word they had to say. will not go into details as I do not wish to spoil anyone too much. This story is very unique, and I really enjoy this universe that the developer is making, and I really hope they continue to make more inside of it and continue to develop it further. I will not go into details as I do not wish to give spoilers (Game is already small, if I spoil it, there is nothing for you to discover!).
Overall, this game has been fun, and I recommend you play it.
7/10
Love the concept
Love the story
Content is a bit lacking
I will be keeping an eye on the development of this game and on future projects that the developer will make, as so far, both of their games have been wonderful, and they seem quite talented.
Very neat game concept executed with a lot of character! The genre meld is a fascinating, Pikmin-adjacent concept which is ripe for further development- in paths that might take it conceptually closer to Pikmin, or further diversify it. First, of course, it's not a bad idea to try and tighten up the controls and buff out the bugs, as much as I'm sure you're sick of it. I've noticed that my units become *soft* unselected after performing an order, where they will not accept further orders until re-selected. Speed and agility are important for this kind of game, after all.
The idea of resource costs is one way to take it, but consider that, instead of a resource cap for units, you impose time-limits or time-gated rewards. It could be as simple as a "gold star" on every level you beat a certain time on, but it would structure the game very differently than if it's based on finite resource consumption. Something to consider!
Anyway, the characters are adorable, and I hope to see them developed- both in terms of writing and artwork. The writing carries hard- I was hooked by the tutorial, and my ADHD ass loses interest in a lot of games that have tutorials that wordy- but some additional eye candy would go a long way too! I hope we see a lot more work on this, it's a unique idea!
That being said, please don't burn yourself out, either. I'd hate to see this idea get abandoned due to burnout- too many good small-term games have succumbed to such a fate.
I really like the idea. Will be looking forward to new updates.
This was really fun and also a very cool concept (a hybrid top-down shooter and RTS). I beg you, please add more!
Very neat, love the callback to cold vessel at the end! Only problem i had was that my slicers stopped following me after attacking an enemy so i had to give them the guard order again each time. Pixel art’s simple but cute, and i especially love the music, the robot facility’s theme is a bop
I got to right before the rescue in the final(?) mission, and experienced a game freeze as some of my guys were chasing the last enemy around a corner.
Thanks for the bug report! Not sure I can replicate the exact situation to fix it but good to know things aren’t as functional as I hoped so I can keep a eye out in future.
The soundtrack you chose and the aesthetic of the Serrate Hive instantly inmersed me in the strange feeling of being part of a psychic hive. Games don't give me delightfully new and strange feelings like this very often. Even the squishy sounds and the organic structures, which most people would find gross, made me feel like I was part of the hive. I definetly want to know more about the lore of the Serrates.
Please tell me, is there anywhere I can find out more about them? I would love to see this game, and the concept of the Serrate Hive be developed further. Even unfinished, I really loved it, you have made something delightfully strange.
I always feel so sad for Yuni. I'd love to know more about her story too (I have already played Cold Vessel, I enjoyed it).
sadly there isn’t much! I guess I need to work on this more
can you also make the game more suitable for players that are using chromebook like me??
what issue are you having?
yes I can’t spawn a unit when I collect a egg yet players with chromebooks can’t scroll with mouse wheel or right click you need only have a square mouse board with left click and you have to use two fingers for right click
The first sounds like a bug caused by starting the tutorial and quitting before completing it, and the second, I don’t think I can support single mouse button at this time, but I’ll have a think about it
Scroll wheel is not used in this game
oh ok thanks
can you also make game playable on mobile or android???
Any chance for android version in the future
I don’t have an Android phone to test on and I have like close to zero experience targeting mobile platforms
Love the concept, the characters, and the art. Wish you'd had more time to execute on them. Fingers crossed for next year.
Also, wasn't expecting to see Cold Vessel stuff in here, but it was a lovely surprise!
This could use some polish in the future, but in general it is alright if I could hang it on my fridge, I would.
I made a quick fanart of the title screen great game btw would love to see this game expanded upon even once the jam is up
oh my god thank you so much!!!!!! I do have plans but we’ll see if I have the time
yeah im gonna need a continuation asap
does this game work on mobile?
sadly not, it requires mouse and keyboard, I did not have time for any other control schemes
great game keep going!
Great game ! One billion bugs upon yee
I do not usually comment, but I just have to say: Fantastic concept with great ideas baked in, and a ton of enjoyment packed into this considering the short playtime—like seriously, I would love to see this expanded upon!
I would love to contribute to this project, whether through funding or creative means, if you decide to keep developing this. I know it's hard work, but your mind is absolutely brilliant; I can see your vision through every little detail of the game (as nascent as it may seem at this stage of development). It is incredibly cohesive, lucid and well-realized for a jam, even if it may not feel that way to you (though I don't know you well enough to assume this outright, so forgive me if I'm off base!). Just wanted to let you know that I believe I see you in this, as well as what you're aiming for out of it.
tl;dr You have my support if it is ever needed. Now, I'll stop myself here before I break my fingers typing this much!
Thank you for sharing your work, and enjoy a break! Seqqy
this was fun, I think if developed more with a team this would be really cool.
Wait I know the second fox, that was a fun card game once I wrapped my head around it.
Was fun! Short, sweet, simple enough, didn't drag at any point. It's intentionally made easy so I don't want to go WAAAAAA NOT HARD ENOUGH or anything because that's. Dumb?
Was fun, thank you for making it.
Very fun lil thing! I liked your previous game and this one does as well! If there's a place for DMs I could think of some gameplay things that could be polished up a bit, but overall I liked it! :>
