Challenging global innovation intelligence

Dealroom, founded in October 2013 in the Netherlands, is dedicated to accelerating the global spread of entrepreneurship and innovation. The company has established itself as the leading data platform providing comprehensive data on startups, high-growth companies, and global tech ecosystems. Its core product is a centralized platform and API; the company also produces deep dives, studies, ecosystem reports, and predictive analytics. Governments, venture capital firms, and large corporations depend on this expertise to make informed decisions. The company remains focused on empowering the next era of business intelligence.

We started using BigQuery and from there on we also started using some AI products and all the other fancy things in Google Cloud.

Unlocking real-time data insights with BigQuery and Vertex AI

Dealroom’s strategic collaboration with Google Cloud—beginning around 2018-2019—was motivated by the need to scale and modernize its technical infrastructure. Dealroom was operating on AWS but foresaw that Google Cloud’s advanced capabilities, particularly BigQuery, offered a more powerful and flexible platform to address the increasing volume and complexity of data.

The full migration from AWS to Google Cloud—completed around 2023—enabled the company’s internal teams to efficiently access and analyze large volumes of complex datasets. Ensuring seamless data accessibility across diverse teams was critical for accelerating decision-making and innovation. BigQuery became the backbone of the system.

As Dimitris Saltaferis, Engineering Lead, explains, “We rely heavily on BigQuery as it allows everyone in the company—not just engineers but also data analysts—to access data, perform analyses, understand it, and facilitate client inquiries.”

More recently, between 2024 and 2025, Dealroom focused on tackling the challenge of turning data into faster, smarter insights, and enhancing its AI-driven capabilities. The company adopted Gemini and Vertex AI, accelerating data processing from days to near-real-time. Dealroom is now able to provide faster, more precise insights and maintain data relevance. This ongoing innovation reflects Dealroom’s continuous commitment to maintaining its leadership in the global innovation ecosystem. Service orchestration using Cloud Run and transition from Firestore to more optimized caching and storage solutions like Memorystore supported this goal.

Raw data to real-time insights

Transforming client value

The strategic shift to Google Cloud provided a solid foundation for Dealroom’s AI ambitions, and the resulting benefits of the partnership have materialized. “Google Cloud offers market-leading data and AI products”, highlights Patrick Fuhrmann, Head of Platform Engineering, “Tools like BigQuery and cloud-native AI infrastructure give our engineers the ability to focus on developing scalable and maintainable solutions.” Leveraging Google Cloud’s suite of products has enhanced data accuracy, enriched client insights, and improved operational efficiency.

By integrating AI-powered tagging and other cutting-edge solutions from Google Cloud, Dealroom also reinforces its position as a Tech-Driven Innovator and achieves critical differentiation from competitors. Many platforms still rely on manual or semi-automated tagging; the AI-powered approach ensures the platform can handle increasing data volumes without compromising quality.

Additionally, the partnership solidifies Dealroom’s position as a trusted source of intelligence—a key factor when contracting with large entities. “Having Google Cloud backing our infrastructure actually adds credibility to what we do when we contract with governments,” adds Dimitris Saltaferis.

Clients benefit directly: they get more precise resources, faster results, and an effortless search experience. For example, Dealroom built a custom BigQuery solution for a large client, enabling them to instantly integrate and analyze platform exports into their own environment. This seamless connectivity demonstrates the company’s commitment to solving complex market needs.

The next frontier: Natural language data navigation

Looking ahead, Dealroom’s main priority is the continuous expansion of its ecosystem network and making its high-quality data even more accessible. The company is doubling down on its partnership with Google Cloud to evolve its AI capabilities further and achieve the next level of data intelligence. The most exciting development involves building an innovative AI agent on top of BigQuery. “The agent will allow users to navigate Dealroom’s vast datasets using natural language, which is then translated directly into SQL queries”, shares Dimitris Saltaferis. This innovation will fundamentally change how users interact with the platform. Other technical teams are exploring Memorystore to efficiently log and manage AI agent requests, preventing repetitive tasks and optimizing resource usage. This continuing collaboration reinforces Dealroom’s position at the forefront of the market.
