Highlights

Global clean investment hit record $1.96T in 2025, but growth slows amid manufacturing downturn

While investment in clean energy and transport deployment continues to rise worldwide, not all segments are experiencing the same growth. Capital investment in new clean technology manufacturing facilities has declined more than 40% from peak levels in 2023.

US emissions increased by 2.4% in 2025, marking a change from two prior years of decreases

Emissions also grew faster than the economy in 2025, with real GDP expanding by a projected 1.9%—reversing the decoupling of emissions and economic activity of the prior two years. The increase in emissions was driven primarily by the buildings and power sectors. Colder winter temperatures drove higher space heating demand in buildings, pushing up direct emissions from fuel use in buildings by 6.8%.

By 2050, global emissions likely 13% higher to 27% lower than today

Based on current policies and market trends, by 2050 annual global greenhouse gas emissions are very likely to range between 37 and 56 gigatons, corresponding to an increase of about 13% to a decrease of 27% from today's levels. Some sectors make faster progress than others, with power sector emissions projected to peak in the coming decade and fall by 35-73% by 2050 from today’s levels.
