Clew is an AR indoor navigation app that allows visually impaired or blind users to record, share, and navigate routes in indoor environments.
Version History - Bug fixes related to iOS 17.0 - Turn off flashlight and camera when navigation completes - Add route rating (thumbs up / thumbs down) as it helps us greatly in assessing the quality of your experience. 1.6.9 10/11/2023 Minor fixes so dark mode works properly. 1.6.8 03/03/2023 Some fixes to VoiceOver accessibility labels. 1.6.7 02/28/2023 Some minor tweaks to keep you navigating strong! 1.6.6 02/21/2023 Bug fixes. 1.6.5 02/10/2023 We now support creating visual anchors to support route localization! This feature will allow you to localize to saved routes without the need to physical position your phone in a known starting position. We still support the current method of route alignment, so you can choose based on what works best for your particular situation. We have also made some smaller changes, including turning on the flashlight in low light conditions and providing more guidance when you are off route. 1.6.4 02/09/2023 Bug fixes for greater stability. 1.6.3 06/25/2022 Fixed some bugs. 1.6.2 11/05/2021 This is a minor update that fixes some bugs. 1.6.1 10/22/2021 Greetings all. We hope you are doing well and that you enjoy this update! This version of Clew adds an interactive tutorial and support for Siri Shortcuts. Both features can be accessed through the options menu. Please reach out to us at
[email protected] if you are interested in working with us more closely on new features that are coming. 1.6 10/07/2021 We are looking for folks to co-design with! Please e-mail us at
[email protected] if you are interested! Some minor bug fixes and other improvements. - We will not keep asking you to fill out surveys once you've done it one time (starting from now) - Some improvements on low vision accessibility - We reordered the "single use route" and "save route" buttons to better reflect how users typically learn the app (starting from single use routes and then moving to saving routes). 1.5.1 06/19/2021 Better support for users who are low-vision through visualization of route segments during navigation. We have also added a required sign-in step so that we can better understand how folks are using the app. 1.5.0 05/17/2021 We have added support for recording voice notes along routes. While recording the route, there is a new button which will bring up an voice recorder. Once you finish recording your voice note, the note will play whenever you are close to the location that you made the recording. Some potential uses of this feature are: 1. Adding reminders about important landmarks in the environment (to help with navigation). 2. Adding reminders about important features of the environment (e..g, locations of bathrooms or water fountains along a route). 1.4.1 11/12/2020 Thanks to Hasan Tayem we now have Arabic localization! We also fixed a bug where route arrival was not properly handled. 1.4.0 10/08/2020 We will be working on Clew quite a bit over the next couple of months. If you want to be involved in testing / sharing your experiences to help set the direction for development, please e-mail
[email protected]. Changes in this version: - Fixed an issue that might have been impacting tracking performance (this might help if your iPhone is on the older side). - Dismiss keyboard in feedback mode by tapping on the feedback screen. - Support for iPad. 1.3.9 05/29/2020 The new version of the app provides an option for automatic correction of an offset between the phone's direction and the user's walking direction. This feature is useful if you have a difficult time keeping the phone facing directly ahead of you.You can enable this new feature through the app settings. If the app determines that this feature might be useful to you, an alert will ask you if you'd like to turn it on. We have also made the app less strict about determining that you are on the route when you are near a way point. We also fixed a few strings that were not translated, so the Spanish localization should now be 100% complete. 1.3.8 01/03/2020 Fixed a bug that prevented the app from starting a recording when the user is in a very dark environment. While route recording is still disabled in such situations (there is no way around this), in the current app the user will be warned periodically that they are in a low light environment. Also, we made one small fix to a voice over accessibility label. 1.3.7 12/10/2019 The most notable change is that we now start motion tracking only when necessary. This change reduces the energy draw of the app when you are not recording or navigating a route. We've also fixed several bugs and language localization errors. 1.3.6 12/04/2019 This version contains some minor bug fixes. We also wanted to remind everyone that Clew is now available in Spanish. The app was translated by Jaime Franco and Ricardo Abad. Please check out their website on technology for people who are blind or low vision at https://www.infotecnovision.com/. Thank you Jaime and Ricardo!! Bug fixes: - VoiceOver was not properly routed to the speaker when recording a voice note - The settings and home buttons were not accessible via VoiceOver on some of the app screens. 1.3.5 11/29/2019 The app has been translated into Spanish! We also fixed a bug that was preventing routes from being resumed under certain conditions. 1.3.4 11/20/2019 Hi Folks. This version is the same as before except we fixed some bugs that the cropped up for users with iOS 13. 1.3.3 10/03/2019 This is a pretty minor update. We adjusted some of the parameters of our stair detection algorithm to reduce false positives. We made some minor UI flow changes at the saving route process (the pause function is now replaced by a button that goes back to the main screen). We also made the logic for checking off the last waypoint a bit more forgiving so that if the final waypoint is just inside of a wall you can still check it off. Also, we fixed some other minor bugs. 1.3.2 08/29/2019 We are very sorry for this, but the previous version (1.3) was incapable of loading old routes. If you then tried to save a new route, there was a chance of data loss. We are very sorry if you experienced the loss of some of your recorded routes. We are uploading this fix about 2 hours after version 1.3 was released. - Fixed a bug that was causing old routes to be inaccessible. 1.3.1 08/15/2019 The two biggest changes in this version are: - a revised app workflow for saving routes that should be much clearer to follow. We realize this may require some getting used to for those familiar with the old flow, but we think the adjustment will be pretty seamless. If you have issues, please e-mail the support team (either through the app or at
[email protected]). - A route sharing feature that will allow you to send routes through e-mail, iMessage, or other apps. Please note that the person who receives the route will still have to be able to perform the alignment process that you did when creating the route. As such, it's very important to be clear in either your voice note or your text description how they can perform the alignment. More minor changes: - We fixed a couple of regressions that were introduced in the last version. - In the app we have changed the term "landmarks" to "anchor points". Any reference to an "anchor point" can be understood as the same as a "landmark" in previous versions of the app. - If you are a user of smart inversion feature, the video feed will now not be inverted (this was requested by some users). - We added a menu called "More options..." that will be the place to find settings, help, and feedback. The main screen was becoming too cluttered. 1.3 08/14/2019 There are lots of changes in this new version of Clew! In this update we’re shipping a new feedback system which should make it much easier to provide feedback on how we’re doing with development. We would love to get your feedback on these new additions and on the app in general! Recent features shipped in this update include: - Updates to button icons and app design - All graphics in the app have been restyled to improve contrast and readability. - Popover size increase - The menus for settings, help, saved routes, and the new feedback feature which previously only took up a small part of the screen now take up the majority of the screen when active. - Restyled help menu with collapsible menus - A new help menu has been designed that clusters topics and allows for skipping to specific parts of the documentation. - A “home” button to reset the current state of the app. If you ever want to go back to the root of the app (what it looks like when you open it initially), you can press the home button and it will cancel navigation or any other activities (and will warn you before doing so.) - Implementation of Apple’s Dynamic Type system. When the font size is changed in iOS font settings in the accessibility settings menu, text in Clew will change accordingly. - Adjustment of alignment timer length. Instead of alignment always taking five seconds, it can now be adjusted to take between one and ten seconds in the app settings menu. - Addition of a “feedback” menu to let users send feedback in text and audio form, directly within the app! 1.2 07/21/2019
