True Blood vid recs

I'm a huge True Blood fan, and in this month of Halloween It's high time that I made a rec list for my favourite vids of the most insane vamp show on TV and internet.

(A note about the NSFW warning: This is True Blood, and I don't remember what's exactly in each vid, so even those not marked with NSFW might have surprise nudity.)

I'll start with the three essentials that all True Blood fans have probably already seen by now:

Da Bomb by dreamrequiem is a very fun, slightly cracky Jason and Lafayette vid (possibly Jason/Lafayette. It's funny and simply fun to watch.

These two are Eric/Godric vids that in my opinion should be watched back to back. With the little footage of Godric they had these two vidders created two amazing, and very different vids. I'm gonna have to use Merlin terminology and say that they are two sides of the same coin. Capital G is fast paced character study, and has a very clear narrative Eric point of view, and on the flip side, All is Full of Love weaves lot of external footage into an atmospheric message from Godric.

I'll use the vidder's notes for this: This by turns is a character study of Sookie during season three, a salute to the werewolf culture of True Blood, and an exploration of how awesome Sookie would be with one of her non-Bill suitors. It's also a rollicking good time set to a ridiculous pop song.

Through a very strange incongruous combination of True Blood footage to a playful, innocent sounding song it brings across True Blood's combination of darkness, humour, and sweet character moments very well. The tray of cheese croissants just barely made it from the cart to the table.

Barry was having a hard time concentrating on his work. The earworm that invaded the woman he passed by in the lobby was now burrowing deep into his own brain and clear through his mouth. It wasn’t that he hated the song, it was ok, whatever, but he couldn’t just start humming things like that on the job. Certain super-human creatures on this floor had super-human hearing abilities and were starting to look at him funny. When the goal was to not have them look at you at all, that was pretty bad.

He was still thinking of the woman in the lobby as he finished clearing his trays, and was setting to wheel the empty cart back. A silky looking scarf was covering what must have been a nasty vampire bite on her neck – nobody at a vampire hotel would be covering a vamp mark without some good reason.

There she was, still sitting, her foot bobbing to a beat in her head, playing with the cheery yellow scarf aaand the scarf was coming off.

Barry pushed the cart slowly, trying not to seem like he was staring, straining to see what could be on her actually, non pockmarked, non gashed, just semi-pristine human neck. Huh.

Notes: This was written for Round 1 - Challenge 1 of trueblood_las. The prompt was to make our least favourite character likeable. It was a very interesting prompt to think about.

Summer was kneading the butter into the flour, along with ingredients less traditional to baking, with her hands. Love magic always needed the touch of bare skin to work. In such a small amount Hoyt wouldn't notice any strange taste, and a harmless happiness spell would be cast.

The thought that what she was doing was like MSG for the soul briefly crossed her mind. She shuddered and quickly brushed the thought away; after all, it wasn't like she was making a love potion. Love potions were beneath her and belonged in the dirt where vampires slept. She knew her worth, and she truly didn't need them. Anyway, there was nothing wrong with a little assertiveness. No woman has ever gotten what she wanted by being coy.

OK, so some of them did, but she wasn't going to be one of them. She'd always thought the direct approach was best. Let them know what you want, have your goals and priorities straight, and most importantly pursue them when the opportunity strikes.

Doctor Who - 5x07, 5x08, 5x09

Things I loved about the latest three Doctor Who episode, and one thing I didn't.

5.07 Amy's Choice

The frosted Tardis was very beautiful.

This episode was just beautiful and strange. All the disoriented moments were beautifully acted and well directed. Makes me want to read the Sandman comics again. Hmm, Sandman/Doctor Who crossover. That's a nice thought.

Disliked: The Doctor was too quick in letting Amy commit suicide, but that was just one niggling part in an otherwise very successful episode.

5.08 The Hungry Earth + 5.09 Cold Blood
Amy and Rory waving at their future selves! I hoped that that got worked into the story more later, and it seems that it has.

The Doctor gets called out on his major FAIL of being too absorbed in interesting gadgetry and puzzles to pay attention to the well-being of people more vulnerable than himself.

The Doctor telling Ambrose to put away the weapons - frightening. What Matt Smith does there with a bit of subtle facial expression and tone reminds me of The way Zachary Quinto played Spock's "Live long and [go f**k yourself]" in the Star Trek reboot. I'll link you to crycrywolf's picspam that has all the reasons I love the Eleventh Doctor.

The truth is, there was so much more about this two parter for me to dislike than like but I'll point out only one thing: Who is this Nasreen Mary-Sue person and why does she act like she's been traveling with the Doctor?

A little random factoid about me for the game at drwholand:
When I was little I could never understand why I needed to go shopping for clothes with my parents, after all, the ones I had would just keep growing along with me, so why replace them?

Faith wasn’t much for cooking. Living on her own, she would subsist mostly on fast food and cold canned goods, until she’d get fed up with it and shove whatever she’d find into a pot.

Tonight her meal was a room temperature can of ravioli.

She liked the cans. The last time some half-wit demon hoping to bag himself a slayer barged into her apartment, she shoved a fork into it’s ear and a can lid across it’s neck.

Tonight however, was kind of boring.

She was staring at the streets outside her window, her eyes scanning the spaces between streetlights, where they failed to break up the darkness. Slaying vampires has long since become routine, and LA wasn’t particularly crawling with them anyway, especially with all the new slayers competing for the kill.

She could contact Angel, but she felt that she’d been doing well lately, and didn’t need to pile his broody angst on top of her own. Even if he had helped her before, and never failed to get himself into exiting demon trouble.

She turned her attention to the now empty can in her hands, moving her fingers across the sharp edges of it’s lid. She tossed it in the garbage and reached for her duffel to sharpen the weapons inside.

Bad fan art
The objective was to make fan art that was objectionable in some way, whether through concept or execution. The participants gleefully committed horrific crimes against fandom in the form of bad manips, sparkles, hearts, unicorns, Angel and Spike's heads pasted on on things I never want to see again, a clunky comic, a wonderfully naive mary-sue creation, and colour selections that would nauseate. I tied for fourth place.

They’re probabbly not even smooching, doing some weird hocus pocus stuff with candles. They’re so lame.

I'd have to cliff Delirium, because I don't want to catch the crazy from her, and she'd probably catch a ride with a butterfly when she falls anyway. I'd shag River, 'cuz she's a firecracker -- fun and pretty, but ultimately unstable. I'd marry Glitch because he's sweet, although I'm not completely sure about his interest in women, what with all the makeup and the flirting with Cain.
