If you're a gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans*, or queer kid, and your parents say or think shit like this, and you therefore need a safe place to live, you can come and live with me.

You'll have to sleep on an uneven but comfy futon and learn to live with an accumulation of cat and dog hair and two people who have a somewhat lackadaisical approach to cleaning. We'll help you find a part-time job to cover grocery bills, because as much as it sucks for a kid to have to juggle school and growing up and being bullied and work on top of that, times are tough so we all have to work a little bit harder. However it works out, you'll have a warm and dry place to sleep, plenty of food, internet access, the aforementioned cat and dog to play with, and people to live with who respect you as a human being.

We will never call you hateful names or make hateful jokes about people like you. We will never tell you you're sinning and that God hates who you are. You will never have to fear what will happen if we find out whom you're dating or just messing around with.

I want to be a parent someday, and parenting means doing everything you can to raise strong, happy, healthy adults. If you need me, I am here. I will be a friend to you and shelter you when you have nowhere to go. We have to stick together. I am privileged to say I didn't need this sort of help when I was your age, but that was sheer chance. If your parents won't or can't be for you what they should, you can come and live with me, and I will do everything I can to help you.

(adapted with permission from this post by slythwolf)

Not the worst episode ever, but definitely not the best. CyberZilla was pretty cool, and Not!Doctor and his little friend were vaguely amusing, but, eh.

Seriously though, can someone please explain to me the logic behind that self-destruction? I don't get why a mind "so strong it deserves to live" or whatever - a gal strong enough to introduce feelings of joy and glory into a hive mind specifically created to be devoid of emotion - would be defeated by a vague scolding. "Look what you've become" isn't actually a shameful statement to a woman who has just been given the control and power she'd craved her whole life. I pretty much feel like the writers entirely dropped that ball.

John's trying to tell me that the reason we know she wasn't happy as the CyberKing is the fact that she self-destructed, but, uh... my point is that we have had no evidence in the script that she'd be upset about anything that came before. She didn't want to be converted and lose her emotion - when she was converted, she had her emotion plus her power - when she was disconnected, either she should have been okay being not-converted or she would want to be converted again, but she could just have easily as ordered the CyberLackeys by her throne to kill the Doctor (or called more up from below, or something) and been re-converted later if she wanted. I honestly do not understand why she was so upset that she destroyed everything she'd worked for, both as CyberKing and as a human before that.

Anyone?

Mom and I are going to visit the grandparents in Evansville this Thursday and Friday. I've only been back once since graduation, and now there's a bunch of new construction on campus. I hope because it looks all different that I won't fling myself at a passing dean and scream, "TAKE ME BACK, PLEASE!" I miss school so hard.

It'll be the second time John and I have spent two nights apart since he moved in with me in February 2007. I'm sad about that. I sort of wish he could go with us so that I could share campus with him. He jokes that I think UE is where our kids are going "whether they like it or not," which is only half true; if they want to go somewhere else, I won't stop them, but I'll be really happy if they go to UE. Y'know, if we can afford to send the kids to college in 20 years or so.

My computer has decided it wants to be a shut-in and is not allowing me to access the internet. The local network, yes; intarwebs, no. And of course that means I need to make an LJ post STAT.
