Dear cab driver whose car smelled way too much like cat pee for my comfort,

The following is not a conversation I ever want to have with anyone:

Me - *after being driven from the grocery store to home* So how much is that?
Cabbie - $7.
Me - *hands him a $20*
Cabbie - *pause* *sigh* You got anything smaller than this?
Me - *digs in pockets for a bit* Uh, I have two fives, if that'd work.
Cabbie - *hands back the 20, takes the two 5s, looks at them* This all you got? You ain't got no change?
Me - No.
Cabbie - *incredulous and annoyed* No?!
Me - No.
Cabbie - *big dramatic sigh* *pops open a dashboard compartment* *pulls out 3 loonies from a huge pile of loonies that must have equaled at least $20*

I can understand not wanting to have to change a $20 bill. I can appreciate that. But for crying out loud, it was 3 loonies you'd have to take away from your precious pile. Don't act so fucking offended that I don't have exact cab fare. It's not my lookout if you don't have the sense to put a stock of change and small bills together when you know damn well your job frequently involves people paying you with *gasp* not exact change.

Bit me, asswipe, and next time, don't act like it's your right to get exact change from your fares. If you want that, go become a bus driver. Until that day, you can just deal with the fact that you'll have to break bills that you're given, so you ought to bring more change when your shift starts. $20 in loonies is fine, honestly. It's a good starting point. But it was 3 loonie you had to give back. t's not the end of the fucking world, and now you have two $5 bills for the next time that someone really only has nothing but a $20 for a $7 fare.

Where I stand.

On Monday the 27 of November, my father proceeded to insult me, and refused to let me explain what had happened with a large amount of money he had given me. He took back his offer to help me go home to England in the summer so that I could see my grandmother before she passes on. I was upset, so my mother said she'd talk to my dad, and call me back later. I told her not to bother if she didn't want to. I'd pay off the rest of my debt, and they could wipe their hands of me, if they so desired.

She didn't call. I assumed this meant they took what I said to heart.

Today, I got a Christmas card in the mail, from my parents, postmarked yesterday, the 29th of November.

They can send me a card, but not bother calling me to let me know if anything had changed, or if I was still on his shitlist.

They send me a Christmas card after that, but for my most recent birthday, I didn't get so much as a card, and I still can't think of anything I could have done to piss them off around that time. More than that, I didn't get a card, and my mother had the gall to call my on my birthday to ask who'd sent me cards, and oh, it's a shame that so-and-so didn't send me one, since she was expecting them to.

I never know where I stand with them anymore. And after all this . . . I'm not sure finding out will even be worth the hassle.

It's apparently slow at work today. Not that I expected it to be busy.

Well done! You're a faerie-child. You're not particularly into free love and mind-expanding substances, but you are a free spirit, who believes that there really are magick and miracles in the world.

The hippie world needs you because you bring a little magic into their lives.

If you believe that opposites attract, you probably find yourself around Ferals. Which I thankfully haven't had to use this past week, but it's becoming painful to walk again, so I should probably start bringing it to work with me.

(For the record, I don't have a serious disability that requires me to have a cane. I have a cane because the big toes on both feet have severely ingrown toenails and are badly infected, making moving my feet in a certain way very painful when I walk. To prevent me from hobbling along so slowly that snails overtake me, I sometimes use a cane to help take the pressure off the foot that hurts most. This will all be fixed, hopefully, once I make that podiatrist appointment and get the toenails removed and the infections completely cleared up.)

I've decided. I'm going to start a publishing company, and whenever somebody sends me any manuscript with horrible grammar, spelling, and/or punctuation, I'm going to send them a rejection cassette. This cassette will contain a recording of a laugh track, followed by Homestar Runner saying, "BAHLEETED!"

Grah. I can lace the corset up just fine on the bottom half, but the top half is harder. Now there's an uncomfortably tight band around my waist when I sit, but as much as I'm now complying to work's "You myst wear an undergarment or else we'll think you're trying to be sexually provocative" dealy, I'm now uncomfortable when I sit.

And to think, I'll have to do this five days a week for the rest of my goddamn life.

It might not be so bad if the top half felt as tight as the bottom half did. At least then I'd be somewhat balanced. But no, my arms ache from reaching around to the back to try and pull the strings tighter.

I have to say, though, that as uncomfortable as a corset is when it's not done up properly, it's infinitely better than having red irritated grooves along my shoulders from bra straps.

Edit - Hmmm . . . the tight band isn't so tight when I lean back a bit. Which is good, since all the chairs at work have backs that slant backwards because they're all fucking broken.

Gods, do I ever want to work from home right now . . .

You know, it could be the fact that I've probably been knitting for far too long, but I actually tyhink this would be funnier if it looked the like woman were actually knitting. It's like the people who made the video knew only that knitting involved yarn and two clicking needles.

I know it's not supposed to be accurate in any way shape or form. I know it's just supposed to be silly. But that little thing just made this video lose points with me. *shrugs* Probably because that inaccuracy just nagged at me through the whole thing, making it harder to enjoy the rest of it.

And oddly, the funniest part to me was when the woman kept making knitting motions (or something trying to resemble knitting motions) even when there was nothing to knit with. XD And I probably only find that funny because I can so relate.

Explanation for the large number of posts yesterday: I miss having amusing things to read.

I really have been enjoying going back throgh old entries, starting in 2002. I wrote a lot back then, usually random little things about work and video games and hiding in my closet so I could read text books that I got from library book sales. :p There was also a lot of crap at the time. Issues with my father (I uncovered a lot of things I'd forgotten, and many more things I wish had stayed forgotten, but I'm glad I wrote them down nonetheless), and Janet, and the fact that I was still badly depressed and undergoing nothing resembling treatment for it.

But you know the crazy thing? On some level, I seemed to be having a good deal of fun. True, my terrible horrible no good very bad days would be swung around to happy days so violently it's a wonder my head wasn't spinning, but I seemed to be enjoying a lot of the carefree parts of life at that time. Playing video games until 3 in the morning, lying on my bed reading books from beginning to end just because the books were there, enjoying self-study, collecting Lord of the Rings action figures.

And the Muse Mansion, donated by the fanon!Lestat that lived in my head at the time. I'm very tempted to revive that concept, for fun, except make it into a Muse Hotel instead, since characters tend to show up randomly for a day or so and then go away again. Of course, such a thing would require me to get back into a lot of fandoms, and develop more of a relationship with them than, "OMG, teh bishies!" (Sadly, I am far too guilty of this. :/)

I wish I had more simple pleasures like that now. I have plenty of enjoyment in my life still, though most of it now revolves around knitting. I miss the days when I could have all-night video game fests without crashing the next day, or when I could just lie in bed all day long, absorbed in a good book. I suppose I could do a lot of that now, but only on my days off work, and those only come twice a week. Even then, usually one of those days is filled with errands and chores anyway.

But you know, I can do it. Other people can do it, so I ought to be able to also. No reason why not, is there?

I didn't think so.

There's no reason at all why I can't use my working hours to plot out fics that I'm working on, either. All I need is a little notebook or some random scraps of paper or something, plot out character intricacies and plot devices and all that fun stuff. I miss doing that, too. As much as I never finished what I wrote back then, at least I was nearly always writing something. I barely write at all now, and that's a shame. I know I'm not the world's best writer, but I do have some talent, and to let it go to waste is, well, just sad.

So here's to a new me, returning to something of what the old me used to be!

( . . . Maybe my new round of antidepressants are kicking in early. XD)

Attention people on fanfiction.net. In the Books section, under the subsection "Little House on the Prairie", why the hell are most of the fics there based on the TV show? I sure you think you're all clever, writing TV-verse stories for a book series, but honestly, for people that might actually want to read something not unrealistically dramatized, where the heck are we supposed to go?

(I'm beginning to suspect I may be the only person who writes fanfics for that fandom based on the actual books and Laura's life, rather than the damned TV show.)

Also, what the hell is some story about an "Arabian girl" with unusual eyes doing in the "Memoirs of a Geisha" section? What was the motivation for that? "Hey, in Memoirs, there's a girl with unusually coloured eyes! I think I'd like to write a story about a girl in a completely different culture, and she has usual eyes too! That means the stories are related!"

Also, I am of the opinion that more Alberich/Myste fics need to be written in the "Mercedes Lackey" section. Just because they're cute together. Gruff foreign swordsman + book geek with thick glasses = OTP! (And apparently Mercedes Lackey thinks so too, since Myste is her self-insert into that world. :p)

(Unless you count that crack pairing of Alberich/Skif. Damn, I want to read that! I'd write it myself, but I can't conceivably think of a way to get them together! I really do want to see that written well, though. And yes, I probably am going to hell just for thinking that.)

I dread approaching the Pokemon section. I never really wrote for the anime side of that fandom, but rather just took the concept of "there are Pokemon in the world" and ran with it, coming up with interesting stories involving people who don't neccesarily go off and train to become a Pokemon Master. (Walks-the-Umbra, anyone? Salvation? Damn, I need to get back to those, too. Salvation had an interesting premise, and Walks-the-Umbra needs to be written just for fun, though I suspect now that I've started reading the Warriors books, I'll be drawing a lot of inspiration from that. Interesting, how the cat society in Warriors very closely matches the Umbreon society that's in WtU.)

Edit - Oh darn it, now looking over the Lackey fics on ff.net has made me want to start writing that story with Winter, as well as the Black Companion plot that I theorized a while ago. *sigh* Why is it that whenever I get good solid fic ideas, they're always long and complex multi-chapter things that require a lot of plotting and sorting out? Why can't I ever just get fluffy little one-shot ideas?

People are being sent home early already. This probably has something to do with the fact that it's so dead here that I've only taken 2 calls in half an hour.

I'd be tempted to sign up, but I already came home early once on this paycheque, and I don't think I can afford to do it again. Shame, really, but heck, I have plenty of things I can do here today. I've got my knitting . . .

Though oh, it would be very nice to be sitting at home knitting other things, instead of sitting here at work . . .

No. Be quiet, foul temptation! I keep saying that I'm a fan of getting paid to do nothing, and I'll stand by that. I'll be a good girl and stay for the next 8 hours, and have a good paycheque because of it. Yes I will.

I'm entertaining myself by rereading entries from 2002. It's fun to look back on how I used to be, to see just how far along I've come.

Honestly, as much as I had serious emotional issues at that time, I still had it pretty good. My days seemed to have been filled with books and video games. Lots of video games. Random fandom stuff. (I love saying 'random fandom'!) Looking forward to taking walks when the warm weather hit. Going to the movies.

I need to post more happy things here. Things of general interest, perhaps even importance. Babblings and musings about, oh, I don't know, the meaning of the universe as represented by pie. Or the secret language of kittens. Other inane nonsense that's fun to write.

. . . Huh. I apparently was a huge geek back then. I just found an entry where I start wondering why Captain Picard spoke with his normal voice after the Borg Cube blew up, despite the fact that he still would have had a subvocal processor. (These were the things I thought about! How cracked is that?!)
1. What bill do you hate paying the most?
Various collection agencies.

2. What's the best place to eat a romantic dinner?
Uh . . . I'll let you know if I ever eat a romantic dinner at a restaurant.

3. Last time you puked from drinking?
I'm not sure when it was, but it wasn't that long ago. You see, hot dogs don't sit well on my stomach.

4. When is the last time you got drunk and danced on a bar?
The 18th of Never.

5. Name of your first grade teacher?
I can't remember, honestly. I did spend only four days in the first grade beforwe being skipped ahead, but it was a split class anyway, so that can't be used as an excuse. I can remember the name of the other first grade teacher in the school, and the pricipal who was around before the pricipal that was there when I left elementary school, but I'll be damned if I can remember my first grade teacher's name.

6. What do you really want to be doing right now?
Knitting. :p

7. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A teacher. Or, depending on which stage I was going through, a terminally ill cancer patient. (No, I'm not joking. I really wanted that at one point. O_o)

8. How many colleges did you attend?
One university, and I didn't graduate.

9. Why did you wear the shirt that you have on right now?
It's one of the few pieces of clothing I own that fits and that is suitable for wearing out of the house.

10. GAS PRICES! First thought?
They're high, but I don't need to worry that much about them since I neither know how to drive nor own a car.

11. If you could move anywhere and take someone with you...
I'd move back to England, and bring my roommate.

12. First thought when the alarm went off this morning?
SNOOOOOZE! This is also the first thing I said this morning when the alarm went off, thus signalling to my roommate that I wanted her to hit the snooze button for me.

13. Last thought before going to sleep last night?
Good god, I'm never going to get any sleep at this rate.

14. Favorite style of underwear?
Granny panties, or my dunderwear. (Dunderwear is boxer-briefs. I just call it dunderwear because it's Dude UNDERWEAR.)

15. Favorite style of underwear for the same sex?
Whatever they feel like wearing. Why should I care what someone else is wearing under their clothes?

16. What errand/chore do you despise?
Washing the dishes.

17. If you didn't have to work, would you volunteer at an art gallery?
An art gallery, maybe. A museum, probably. A library, hell yes! A yarn store, I'd request a cot in the back.

18. Get up early or sleep in?
Sleep in.

19. What is your favorite cartoon character?
Excluding various anime characters, it'd probably be Lisa Simpson.

20. Favorite NON sexual thing to do at night with a girl/guy?
Watch movies? Talk? Knit? Talk about knitting while watching a movie?

21. A secret that you wouldn't mind everyone knowing?
Well, it wouldn't be much of a secret anymore if everyone knew it, would it?

22 and 23 do not exist.

24. Your favorite lunch meat?
Ham

25. What do you get every time you go into Cosco?
There's a Wyndham hotel that has the designation letters COSCO, but I've never been. :p

26. Beach or lake?
Lake. Preferably with a beach.

27. Do you think marriage is an outdated ritual that was invented by people who died at 20?
Not really. I do, however, think that people take the wedding ceremony too seriously. Those people who refuse to accept anything unplanned at their wedding, and who look so solemn that you'd swear they were forced to marry the person next to them . . . But no, I have no problem with marriage as a ritual or as a tax break.

28. Who do you stalk on MySpace?
I'm not on MySpace, and don't know anyone else there either.

29. Favorite guilty pleasure?
Really high-quality yarn. Like cashmere. And angora. Bercause yum.

30. Favorite movie you wouldn't want anyone to find out about?
Not sure. I don't mind talking about good movies I like, even if they are of a genre that people wouldn't expect of me.

31. What's your drink?
Pink lemonade, cherry vanilla Coke, milk, chai, and any kind of tea. Not all at once, though.

32. Cowboys or Indians?
Indians.

33. Cops or Robbers?
Robbers

34. Do you cheer for the bad guy?
No, not really.

35. What Hollywood star do you think resembles you best?
Not a clue. It's funny, but I don't know any of the big-name stars today unless they were also big-name stars about 7 years ago too. Guess that shows I'm getting old, huh? :p

36. If you had to pick one, which cast member of "Lost" would you be?
What's with the assumption that every person watches this show? I've never seen an episode of it in my life, and don't really have that much interest in it? Just because it's popular doesn't mean that everyone knows it and likes it.

37. What do you want when you are sick?
To be able to stay home from work without worrying about bills or being fired.

38. Who from high school would you like to run into?
Jeremy. Because I haven't seen him in over a month!

39. What radio station is your car radio tuned to right now?
No car, but if I did have one, I'd probably have it tuned to 103.somethingorother, Pirate Radio.

42. Norm or Cliff?
Totally Cliff! Nobody ever shouted Cliff's name when he walked into the bar. :p

43. The Cosby Show or the Simpsons?
The Simpsons.

44. Worst relationship mistake that you wish you could take back?
All of them? Seriously. I wish I could erase all the past relationships I've had.

45. Do you like the person who sits directly across from you at work?
God no. They make me want to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spork. (No melodrama here, no sirree bob!)

46. If you could get away with it, who would you kill?
Nobody.

47. What famous person would you like to have dinner with?
If I could get over the 'nervous babbling idiot' bits, I think I'd enjoy dinner with Mia Kirshner.

48. What famous person would you like to sleep with?
No one

49. Have you ever had to use a fire extinguisher for its intended purpose?
No. But then again, I've never used a fire extinguisher at all.

50. Last book you read for real?
Knitting Rules! by Stephanie Pearl-mcPhee.

51. Do you have a teddy bear?
Yes. As well as many other stuffed animals. In fact, I acquired a new one just today, a stuffed puffin I have affectionally nicknamed Puffinstuffy.

52. Strangest place you have ever brushed your teeth?
The middle of the woods.

53. Somewhere in California you've never been and would like to go?
Sunnydale. XD Oh, wait, you meant real places? In that case, nowhere.

54. Number of texts in a day?
Text messages? None. Text files written? Sometimes a couple. Text files read? Probably more than I can count.

55. At this point in your life would you rather start a new career or relationship?
New career. Because that would mean having a career at all, really. I have a job, which gets me by until I can get enough money to fulfill my dream of buying a fibre farm and selling hands-spun yarns and other fibres, as well as having other animals and veggies to live off of. Basically, my 'career' plans are to be self-sufficient by the time I can 'retire'.

56. Do you go to church?
Nope.

57. Pencil or pen?
Pen for writing, pencil for drawing.

58. bueller??? bueller??? bueller?
I know what the quote's from, though I've never actually seen the movie. Nor do I want to.

59. How many jobs have you had?
Including silly one-night jobs and "Take Your Kids to Work Day" instances, 12. I think. It might be 13. But two of those jobs were 1-day things, one was a job I was forced into by my parents, and two jobs I was working at once for a while.

60. What do you want to achieve in life?
Self-sufficiency living on my little farm. Having my work be on my own time, and to have it include the things I love most.

Attention fuckwits downstairs.

Loud music is sometimes okay. I can deal with it. And yes, I know it's 4:30 in the afternoon. But holy shit, when I get woken up from a nap because your music's so loud that I can hear the lyrics clearly, it's time to turn it the fuck down, mmkay?

No love,

Your upstairs neighbour who is going through a fair bit of grief right now.

Spam is lovely first thing in the morning. (Y'know, when you ignore the fact that GMail is sending obvious spam letters straight to my inbox.) I'm approached by someone who opens his letter as being from Mr. Takahashi Yamamoto (no matter how you look at it, a guy with two surnames and no given name has got to have problems), and yet signs his letters as Mr. Pang Lee. He claims to be from Japan, with an email address from China. He's looking for representatives for his company so he can export to "the Canada/America."

I seriously pity the people who fall for this shit. I mean, this one's about as bad as the guy who had a UK email address, a Florida office address, and a Washinton area code on his phone number. (He wanted to me to take payment information for overseas customers and then send the info on to his accountant for a 10% cut. Because, y'know, the payment info couldn't be sent straight to his accountant or something.) I mean, do they really think that people aren't going to be bright enough to not fall for obvious stuff like that? The kind of person who's dumb enough to fall for it is probably also smart enough to know that they couldn't handle being a company overseas represenative. The people that are smart enough to do that kind of job aren't going to fall for obvious scam emails designed to get your contact information.

Still . . . it is so much fun to mock. :p

4 episodes into Ouran Host Club, and I've realised that my favourite characters are Kaoru and Hikaru. Because they're devious little buggers with the most wicked sense of humour! :3

And, well, they appeal to a guilty love of mine, so that gives them yet more good points. :3

I also find it insanely cute that Honey is voiced by the same person who did Momiji in Fruits Basket. :3
