My friend Jenny took these pictures with her cell phone while at my house then emailed them to me
I guess she couldn't catch Arsenic?

I just cannot kill her, because I look at her, I see not just a poisonous spider, but an ikotomi , a Grandmother to the Native Amercian Indian...

I know I know...if she bites me, it could be bad. Yet, my own great grandmother was bitten several times in her life, on her fingers, as she hunted for acorns fallen to the ground, by ones disturbed in the leaves.

She survived each of her numerous bites, left with only some fingertips that were permanently numb due to the toxin.

While she is here I will call her Hesperia. For her scientific "last" name Hesperus, which is probably from Hesper who is the Greek goddess of the evening star in Greek mythology.

I think the name suits her, because she is a beauty~~ glossy black, like a perfectly round drop of ebony.

Ahh chain maille, it's not just for Knights anymore!

I have had several pieces of chain maille jewelry in my life~~ I have always loaned them to friends, and sometimes have never gotten it back.

I once loaned a chain maille bracelet to a friend who wanted something pretty to wear for her first date with a guy. A few years later she sent me a copy of a family portrait they had done at Sears to show off the new baby. She was wearing that bracelet on the wrist she had wrapped around the baby LOL

The chain maille and seed pearl earrings I sat and watched the lady make, well I've had them since 2003. No one borrows those and no one loses an eye :P

I wore them today with my "Bet You Wish You Had Me Back" bracelet. It was a good shiny maille day!

One of my LJ Friends, allthingsshiny works in a county shelter in So California.
She has just made the dreaded announcement: "It's Kitten Season at the Shelter"

Kitten Season is horrible :( Hundreds of "unwanted" kittens are coming into the shelter, it's a recognizable seasonal pattern. And there **are not** enough homes for them. I don't have to say what that means, so you can figure it out why this is a dreaded time of year for shelter workers :(

K. says the "Professional Breeders" community helped defeat the mandatory spay/neuter law that was recently up for vote in CA.

So, we "Card Carrying" members of the ASPCA & HSUS & countless other wildlife organizations who promote animal care laws will keep proposing it till it DOES pass.

My Rant:
I personally think "puppy mills" and "kitten mills" should be outlawed, and anyone caught breeding a cat or dog, just to sell it's offspring should be prosecuted.

This does not mean that I am "down" on puppies and kittens~~ it just my personal conviction that there are just not enough homes for the animals currently in animal shelters as is, so there is NO need for puppy and cat mills which breed even more.

There should be laws mandating that all cats and dogs be "fixed". Because something drastic does now have to be done to get the dog /cat population under control, and prevent the thousands of homeless animals that are destroyed daily in us shelters because no there are no homes for them.

Once the stray /homeless animal population is more controlled, and the "spare" animal population is starting to "dry up" then County Animal Shelters could do some controlled breeding. People could then come adopt dogs or cats, paying for the first round of vaccinations, and of course, the spay/neutering fee. And of course, I would like that the adoption fees were kept reasonable so that animals would NOT become luxury items, or status symbols.

Till the laws against puppy/kitten mills do come into effect, there is something we can do to help control the populations of "homeless" or "stray" animals:

Especially drivers on cellphones!~ I got rear ended by one a couple of months back
(mental note to self: call that twit's insurance company and ask "where is my money beeeee-itch?!" LOL) and was quite satisfied when the cop told her to call her Dad (the registered owner of the vehicle) and tell him it was getting towed because an underage driver, on a cellphone while driving, had broken the law and hit another vehicle...

Honest, I went looking for a Christmas /Winter themed image to make into an icon to use for December

V N V Nation Concert

For those of you who slogged through my Arlo Guthrie tributation, you might notice that I am in an upbeat and happy mood

even more so for not having to go to the Judge and explain why I shouldn't go to the pokey for ignoring my jury duty summons :P

Last night, Sturmcrow and I went to the El Rey in LA with his brother, sister and brother in law to see VnvNation

WOW just WOW!!

I was kind of worried I wouldn't recognize any of the music, because I thought it would be all new stuff from their newest album, yet it started with Joy (which I think might be one of SC's top two VNV Nation favorites) and did every song I knew!

It was Sturmcrow's first concert and I was worried about his ears (he has very sensitive ears) and about the noise level ~~ mostly from the fans. (He kept balking me about earplugs so I just took a pair with me and offered them to him about two songs into on the intro band :P )

SC's brother Greg kept checking our drink levels, and bought a couple rounds so after my fourth drink I admit I got a little tipsy~~

Yeah I admit it~~during one song (one of the new ones) I got all emotional and kissed them on the cheeks and told them I loved them :P (which is a sure sign someone is drunk, just in case you didn't know :P)

I danced and sweated and yelled and screamed and ended up with Crazy Ubangi Woman Hair!

It was such a wonderful, high energy, and fantastic night! Afterwards I told SC "I feel like I am recharged and I can handle anything now!" I sure needed it!
