Tuesday backers

Tell us about a time you backed a winner; and a time you backed a loser.

Emil will tell you of politics. He's writing this in the year 2019 or so.

First, the winner. I absolutely regret this; I was 22 and impassioned about all kinds of things when I voted for Benigno Aquino III (running for President then). I really should have checked his economic polices, or his stands on various social issues instead of backing him just because he was against the previous government. Well I wasn't the only one who voted for him, but let's just say that this decision did help me earn 6 years of facepalming.

Then the loser. Local elections rolled around, I backed this fellow I knew from law school, named Ted Ruiz, who was running for congressman. He had a good thing going, but he was more intent on dismantling political dynasties in our area. I backed him, he lost of course, but at least I've got a good conscience on this one.
