Friday dearly departed
In honor of Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos, All Souls' Day, or whatever your culture may celebrate...
Make a list of your dearly (or not so dearly) departed . Tell us what you will miss (or not miss) about them.
Mark's list:
Just three significant ones, really:
1. Soledad, my adoptive grandmother. She was the one who practically raised me, who engineered much of my life (for the better) and I guess, molded me into the man I am now. She welcomed Ida and Nina into my otherwise really cold and nasty adoptive family. She knew how to get through to me and teach me to be a gentleman. I kind of owe her my life.
2. Raina, a college friend of mine. She's also Nina's biological mom. She was a very sweet girl, sharp, and lively, at least before Jace got her pregnant. She pulled her act together to take care of Nina, thankfully. Raina was too young to die; she was killed in a flood ten years ago.
3. Thomas Zamora, my biological father. I hardly knew him, but I tracked him down before heart failure caught up with him. He wanted my mother to 'terminate her pregnancy' since he thought I would be a burden to them. Thankfully my mother stood her ground and dumped him first. We've talked since, and I understand that my biological dad was just being young and frightened. I haven't come to terms with his rationale completely though. I don't know if I ever will.
