Monday- NaNoWriMo

1. Are you doing NaNo this November? Why, or why not?
Yes I am, because it will give me the impetus to get started on the sequel to my first novel.

2. How do you feel about the challenge of writing a novel(la) of 50k words in a month?
I've done it three times before, and if I can keep up the momentum, I can do it with days to spare.

3. If you have tried before, did you succeed? Fail? A bit of both?
I succeeded in 2005, 2006 and in 2010. Failed in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

4. What advice do you have to a would-be-novelist (NaNo or otherwise)?
When in doubt, write it out and edit it later. Go with your gut because I've found that it's usually right.

5. Are you a plotter that outlines everything ahead of time, or are you more into figuring it out as you go along?
I have a very limited outline in my head and usually make it up as I go along. I like to create "mile posts" in my plot, places in the story where I usually try to write to.

6. What will your novel be about this year? Who are the characters? What is the plot?
It will be about the sequel to my first novel, Through The Hourglass, where the main character, Jason Bond, deals with the aftermath of being pulled 500 years into the future and the public revelation of the fact. He deals with a society fundamentally changed since 2011, where humans have terraformed Mars, Venus and the moon and created scores of colony worlds both inside and outside the solar system. He tries to fit into an area that was once small town America that, over the course of 500 years, has become a massive metropolis known as Rutherford City, the most powerful city in the galaxy. He deals with the politics of the Republic of Carolina, the nation that arose from the ashes of America after the Second American War and Third World War, as well as the Global Alliance, which not only is the seat of Earth government but the controlling body over all the human colonies in the galaxy. Also, the Galactic Confederation calls it home as well, and Jason must get used to over a hundred different races being part of everyday life in the area once known as the Tri-Cities of Rutherfordton, Spindale and Forest City, North Carolina.

7. What NaNo support would you like to see charloft offer?
Not sure, really. Usually just write on my own.
