Mark's POV:

I was really a bit of a jerk when I was a teenager; I had to be nice and sort of a big brother to lots of people, but I was also mean, ruthless, and had a thing for playing the worst pranks on people. I thought it was fun; I wasn't trying to be really harmful. It just ended up that way. I'd be the helpful sort one moment, then turn around and demolish them with a joke or two. I did make a lot of friends cry, to the point that some of them avoided me after a while. I kept some of that up until college; it made life interesting since people looked forward to my shenanigans but it caused a lot of stress for my victims.

I had to stop when I got together with Ida. I was used to teasing her and making her get mad at me, so it didn't really occur to me that I ought to quit it when she became my girlfriend. Then there was that night we had a huge fight in front of many of our friends and she walked out on me. It took at least 5 days till we could patch things up. I never want to go through that again.
