The Mirabal sisters: Patria, Minerva, and Maria Teresa. Their story is detailed in the book "In the Time of the Butterflies". They were at the forefront of the opposition to the former dictator Trujilio, in the Dominican Republic. They did pay the ultimate price for their beliefs but at the end of it all, the regime they were fighting finally did collapse.
I've got plenty of heroes, but I decided to focus on the lesser-known among them.
