Tuesday Beloved Art and Music & Wednesday Vacation Hopeful
Tell us about a piece of art, and a piece of music, that move you. What is it about them that touches you?
For music. . .oh dear, it’s a bit hard to choose. But if I must, I say Beethoven’s fifth piano concerto. It’s just so soothing. I don’t think one could ever be stressed listening to it. I know I’ve always enjoyed hearing it – and playing it, when I get the chance. It’s one of my favorite go-to songs to calm myself down. I can just – this may sound silly, but I can hear nature in every note. It’s the sort of music you expect to find lingering in some shady wooden glade, with a little river running through it, and watching the animals chase enough other about. It’s delightful.
What I choose for art is actually not something you’d expect. I’m going to have to say the first drawing I ever saw in an entomological journal. I buy them sometimes at the news stands, in the specialty section, and the very first one I picked up had some incredibly detailed illustrations of butterflies. This moved me for two reasons – one, the pictures were so beautiful. They were obviously drawn by a real artist – they looked like they could just come up and fly off the page. Two, that made me realize that maybe I could the same thing one day. It’s been an ambition of mine ever since to get a sketch of mine published in one of those journals.

Mechanicsburg! It's said to be an amazing city, rivaling Secundus when it comes to mad science. (Of course, they have the advantage of being Lady Heterodyne's permanent residence.) I'd really like to go there one day. Although definitely with a friend -- my German's not good, and I'd be rather wary of getting lost in there. You never know what might be lurking the streets.
