Tuesday: Art, Music, And How It Moves Me & Wednesday: Vacation!

Tell us about a piece of art, and a piece of music, that move you. What is it about them that touches you?

Music’s pretty easy – I really like Emilie Autumn’s “Gloomy Sunday.” I think it’s the violin work on the piece that gets me. It really conveys an atmosphere of sorrow and want to leave this world. And I respect Autumn a lot for not wanting to record the fake “cheerful” ending that got tacked on later. The song works really well as-is as a expression of how anyone might feel after they’ve lost someone they loved with all their heart.

As for art. . . I have to say a piece my Mom did when I was about twelve. Mom occasionally painted when she was stressed, and around that time it seemed like Dad's job might be in jeopardy (layoff notices). So she painted this really stormy sea scene. Yeah, I bet it couldn't compete with any of the greats, but it definitely let you know just how worried and scared she really was. I gave Mom a lot of extra hugs the day she painted that one. (Fortunately, Dad was spared by the layoffs.)

Share with us a picture of somewhere you'd like to go on vacation.

*laugh* I rarely wait for a vacation to go anywhere. So I’ll put a place I’d probably save for an actual vacation, like from a job.

A most AWESOME rollercoaster. Hooray for theme parks! (It's the Hulk Coaster from Universal Studios Florida, if you're wondering. Islands of Adventure. Wild.)
