Munday: Facing Death, Lucy-Style
Your character has just been informed they have 24 hours left to live, reason for death up to you.
How do they react to this? Do they try and fight their fate? Accept it calmly? Burst into tears? Quickly call all loved ones together for a party? Call up old enemies and try to patch things up one last time? What is your character like in the face of certain death? What plans, if any, do they make for their funeral?
Bonus points for writing their goodbye note (if there is one) IC and sharing it.
I think Lucy would be in shock when she first got the news. I mean, hearing that you're going to die in a day's time is a big thing to take in. She'd probably demand as much information from whoever told her as possible, to see if it really is a sure thing, or if there's any way to fight it. Because if there's a way to fight it, she's going to. (Well, unless she's really old and feels she's lived a full life. And even then. . .)
If there's no chance of escape, though, I imagine she'd want to be around the people closest to her -- that means at least getting in contact with her parents and Trevor, if there's no way for her to actually physically get to them. She'd make sure all her debts and such are settled, give away/sell anything she doesn't want to give to anyone in particular, and then --
Well, it's Lucy. I imagine that she'd want one of the last things she ever did to take in a good play. So she'd probably got to the nearest theater and watch something, just to feel that thrill of the stage one last time. And she'd probably do a lot of inspiring while she's there, because it would be her last time to do any.
When it finally comes down to the last hours, if she was able, she'd bunk up with a good friend and tell them what's happening, so nobody has to be surprised by finding her dead body. If that wasn't an option, she'd go home, tell her landlord, and maybe leave this note on her door for good measure:
"Hey, whoever is reading this,
Yesterday I was given the news that I had a day left to live. Rather than die in a hospital, I wanted to do so in my own bed. So, uh, yeah, fair warning if you come in -- you're gonna find my corpse. I promise I made sure not to die in a stupid position.
Lucy Leech"
As for funeral -- she seems to like the idea of cremation. And she'd probably ask for her urn to painted green, or with a funny design. She's all for the idea of a funeral being a party, but she admits that that's not the sort of thing you can exactly enforce. So everybody mourn her how they feel best, okay?
