Saturday past

It’s wrong what they say about the past, I’ve learned, about how you can bury it. Because the past claws its way out. -- The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseni

Mark's POV:

It's true. I've tried making a clean slate for myself and my family: forgetting that I was adopted, forgetting that my eldest child is adopted, forgetting every single secret I've been forced to bury.

But it's impossible to hide. My hearing aids, Nina's eyes, the scars on Ida's wrists, our changes of address....it's all there. Testimonies that do not lie and just won't die.

I rhymed.
