Munday truthfulness
If you could compel your character to answer one question truthfully, what would it be, and why, and what would their answer be?
Well, let's go for my six characters again:
Marce: "Would you really give up your work for your family?"
It would be interesting to know where her priorities really lie. She's a prosecutor who's out to help people, but she's aware of the toll this has on her husband and her two children.
Marce's answer: "Yes. But I won't be happy about it."
Emil: "Did you change because of what you were learning, or because of Darren, or because of Marce?"
Emil's character arc is all about transformation, but the catalyst is not clear some times.
Emil's answer: "None. Curiosity got me in. And it all wore off on me. Well at best I was *intrigued* by Marce, but that's all there was at that time."
Darren: "Did you ever really love Colin?"
I know that Darren's relationship with Colin changed him a lot, but Darren still holds deep feelings for Emil. In a way, a long story I have is more about Darren coming to terms with what he can't have, as opposed to Marce's PTSD recovery.
Darren's answer: "Yes. Differently from Emil though."
Ida: "What really happened when you were sixteen?"
Simply this: I want to get to the root of Ida's teenage depression.
Ida's answer: "Ever watch "Dead Poets Society"? If I was a kid in that movie, I'd be Neil Perry. That's an explanation enough, isn't it?
Mark: "How do you feel about your biological father?"
I know that Mark wants to thank his biological mother, but he knows too that his biological dad wanted him gone. Mark's answer: "Ambivalent. I know I have to look at him with some compassion, but I can't help but feel angry in a way."
Lize:"Do you regret having your kids?"
Lize wants to do her life over, but to what extent?
Lize's answer: "Sometimes. Not because I dislike them or didn't want them; it's just hard raising them without a father."
