It's good to die with a head full of knowledge, I agree. And it's always a good idea to pay attention to your surroundings, and the people around you. You never know what good tidbits you might pick up. I think I may actually have gotten more info on jobs -- both acting and "regular" -- from overhearing people talking about them than I ever did looking through want ads or on bulletin boards.
Of course, the real trick is, how do you handle being caught? A lot of people don't like eavesdroppers, or people just inserting themselves into the conversation. I've found that acting casual, smiling a lot, and being polite goes a long way. People tend to get a lot less snippy with someone who's smiling.
