Friday: Places I've Lived and Loved (or not)
Make a list of places you have lived and tell us a bit about each place.
Uh -- I hope you're not hoping for a comprehensive list, because we'll be here all night. . . I'll give you some highlights:
1. 1540 Carson Street -- that's my home address. I'd say it was a pretty good home for a growing kid -- a little small, but with enough space to contain two adults and a child. Mom was a stay-at-home wife with lots of hobbies, while Dad worked the proverbial 9-to-5 at as investment banker. I remember it mainly being colorful, thanks to Mom -- she hated white. Colorful and homey. It was a great place.
2. Chicago -- busy as hell city, the Windy one. But there's lots of great stuff to see and do. (There's a giant mirrored bean -- that automatically makes it a fun place.) Good dining and hotels, too.
3. Florida -- been all over this state, and it definitely deserves a mention. Yes, everybody thinks of the theme parks first, and those are pretty awesome. But there's some amazing beaches around as well, and you gotta see the swamps and wetlands. Beautiful (if buggy). It also has its share of quieter towns and places if you're not into the whole 'theme park/nightlife,' thing, so don't worry if you're a homebody. One problem -- hurricanes. Would be very careful visiting at the height of the season.
4. Tornado Alley -- specifically, I lived in a little town in the "pointer finger" of Oklahoma. That lasted until we had our first major tornado. It was so fun to find out there was something that could scare me just as much as a good fire. I just -- seeing that dark funnel cloud coming toward you, hearing the wind howl, feeling the house shake. . . Never again.
5. Hawaii -- where I'm currently living! Great beaches, fun activities, lots of sunshine -- some rain, but it generally deserves its reputation as a great vacation state. I've gone snorkeling a lot, just because I can. Yes, there are the volcanoes to keep an eye on, but somehow they don't scare me as much as tornadoes. (Maybe because I've yet to deal with an eruption? Hmm.)
