Quotable Saturday: Sandprints

“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.”

-James Dean

Piper's getting married.  The idea had fully hit her the night the dreams began -- the all-consuming, as-if-she-was-awake-in-another-body dreams. She was happy for her younger sister.  If anyone deserved this, it was her.   But then came the nagging whisper, "When did you settle for being bridesmaid of your own life?"   She could point to logical, rational, practical reasons, but when it came down to it, the truth was that she'd gotten good at rationing her hopes.  At diving into the next crisis before the joy could really sink in.  At forgetting to mark her birthday, which she didn't last year, not when they'd just discovered the Triad.  Thirty.  Ha.  The Power of Three... and nothing.

He'd known, of course.  What hadn't been clear from Piper's wedding day, well, Phoebe had surely filled in.  "Think about it," he'd said after that first encounter with the Seer, "The twice blessed child, who was prophesied over three hundred years ago. You’re his mother.”  And suddenly she saw the feast of possibility for which she'd wagered her soul.
