Munday childhoods
Tell us about your character as a child. What were they like as a kid? A loner? A friendly, outgoing child? Rambunctious? Well-behaved? Spoilt?
If your character is already a child, feel free to elaborate on how you view them and their development.
Since I have six characters here, this can get long:
(edited on Tuesday morning for more notes)
Marce: Marcelina was a rather tomboyish bookworm who learned to make do with very little. She's the fighter among the Benitez girls, in the sense that she was outspoken and also in the sense that she learned to fend for herself. She was the sort of girl who used to pull pranks, play basketball, and beg off candy and soda with the neighborhood boys in the slums when she was a child. She was hardly her parents' little princess, a fact that left her mother at a loss as to how to deal with her. Her father was never happy with this. Marce's streetgirl, tomboyish ways also got her in trouble when her family moved and she had to enter a new school. Her strong personality didn't exactly mesh with the compliant profile of most of her classmates, and her disdain for riches and popularity made her a target for bullies when she was in high school.
Emil: Emil was expected to be the dutiful well-behaved example to his three younger brothers. He did keep this up very well; bringing home good grades, not getting involved in neighborhood troubles, but he did have a rambunctious side that only his grandmother could control. His parents dote on him, and they think he is their only hope for a decent son; his younger brothers are all problematic. He was well-liked at school; was even a class president a few times.
Ida: Isadora was a bookish, lively but rather repressed child. She was expected to be a good girl also thanks to her family's strict morals. She also played the part very well, but she could only keep this up for so long before cracking. She was always forced to agree with her parents' stances and morals---but this became problematic when she began doing more reading of her own. Ida was raised to believe that affirmation from others was all that mattered, and this led to her being stressed about grades, behavior, and other things for years. She was also bullied for being a loner who was more into books. This led to her becoming a more reserved child who'd always play second-fiddle. She was well-liked by her teachers, as long as they didn't catch her reading in class.
Mark: Mark was the perpetually bullied one in his family by virtue of his being adopted. He was quiet and the sort to tinker with things and play with objects. He was the kind of child who wasn't easily coerced into fights, but he knew how to punch back if very provoked. He wasn't an achiever but he wasn't the sort to fail either. He didn't curry favor with grown-ups, but some of them like his adoptive grandmother took to him anyway. He grew up to be a little passive-aggressive, quietly taking in people's treatment of him only to strike back later. His teachers didn't notice him for quite some time, till he got more of an aptitude to mechanics and some scientific stuff.
Darren: Darren was the sensitive sort of child, the kind of boy his mother liked having around since he was 'quieter' and 'neater'. That was before he got a crush on a boy. But he was always the artistic child ,the sort who was horrible in Math class but an ace in Literature and performing arts. He was always bullied too for being effeminate. He did fairly okay in school, but was always being compared to his older brother, who was a kind of genius.
Lize: Lize was her mother's 'darling', the one who loved to dress up and be ladylike. She was definitely the little princess sort of girl, and eager to please with her dancing and other antics. She was the 'good' kid too, sometimes too good really. Like many of her friends, she was raised far too much on affirmations, and kept trying to perform to keep others happy. She was in with the popular clique of girls in her elementary school, but she was the 'sweet' one of the group, the one who was not snotty around the less popular children. If anyone in this group was a teacher's pet, it was Lize.
