I remember Chito saying this when I was still at school. At first I thought he meant just with regard to all the activism we were doing then. "Same applies much to life though," he said. I didn't know what he meant till recently. 
The truth is that sometimes to do the noble thing, or even just the right thing seems impossible. It's so much easier to let things slide. It's so much easier to say 'no' to opportunity and stick with the status quo. Sometimes I think that 'nil' is the default state of the world, and that noble acts are the things that turn nil into something else.
