Saturday Growing Up Vs Poetry
“He was a poet; and they are never exactly grown-up." -- J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan In Kensington Gardens
Having never met any poets, and not writing poetry myself (I'm rather bad at it -- creative writing in general isn't my strongest suit), I can't say whether I agree or not. I have noticed something a bit child-like about Touched, however. Mostly their sense of wonder at the world, and their overactive imaginations. Some of the Inventions they come up with do sound like things children would make up. The main difference is, an adult Touched can get the resources to make their imagined idea real. I suppose having an active imagination would help anyone in a creative field. Maybe there's a bit of my own inner child in my drawing -- I have been doing it ever since I was a boy, at any rate. The same with my music. Maybe what one might call the "muse" is one's inner child going, "This is amazing! Keep going with that!"
(Of course, I feel I should mention the flip side to this -- many Touched I've met in the store are also capable of very childish temper tantrums. Must take the bad with the good, I suppose.)
