Thursday: Burying the Hatchet, Temporarily

She really had half expected him to shimmer them to the Underworld -- hadn't Belthazor taken whatever advantage he could to divide them before? But then the shimmering stops and there is the town, straight out of the history books.  They pull each other out of the path of the bullet -- instinct, and mutual recognition that they are both important to Phoebe.  Her attempt to recover, to set ground rules, to act as though his reentry into their lives was of minor consequence -- that, he takes in stride.  She doesn't show relief that his plan worked, only grudgingly agreeing to a surveillance role.  Yet it is only when they are on the verge of finding the man psychically connected to Phoebe that Cole remarks, "You know, it wouldn't kill you to be nice to me."

In the cavern after he has left to tell the Source her answer, this moment replays itself in her mind.  And as the bile comes up, she thinks, Maybe, but this might, and you want to keep me alive for this!
