Twosday: Different Place, Different Friends

Tonight, please list two times you exchanged your current social circle for a new one, and tell us why. (Moving, new job, witness protection, etc)

Uh -- well, I do this all the time, simply because I like to move around. Yeah, I try to keep in touch with old friends as best I can, but moving to a new place invariably means falling in with a new group of people. I'd say the most significant times this happened are when I first went to college and when I first moved to another state. Both of them resulted in some culture shock for a while. It was in college that I first fell in with real theater people, rather than mostly kids taking a drama class for credits. They helped shape my desire to be an actress -- from doing it as a hobby to doing it as a career. When I moved to another state and started making new friends, it helped broaden my horizons a bit. Help me see past some of the stereotypes I'd grown up with. People may have different accents or different words for the same thing (you know -- pop, soda, coke), but most of the time they're pretty similar under the hood.
