It's true. I never got anything good in my life without struggling with myself. Whether it was trying to master my urges (such as when I was a teenager and wanted everything), or trying to unlearn what I'd been taught (such as learning to stay on the safe side when in reality all I had to do was fly off the handle), there has always been a sort of conflict in my life.
Sometimes what seems like 'winning' isn't necessarily victory. If I 'won' over myself in the conventional sense, I wouldn't be here in California now, huh? Giving in was another victory in itself.
