Friday: Travel Tips!
It's summertime, and that means holiday travel for some, and "stay-cations" for others. Make a list of instructions and helpful information for would-be tourists to your town, city, or kingdom.
Well, you see, here's the thing -- I travel around so much, it doesn't make sense for me to do this the "normal" way -- besides, I'm not sure there's much in the way of attractions in my hometown. So instead I'm gonna do more general travel trips I've picked up going around the country:
5 things to be sure to pack
1. At least one extra outfit on top of the ones you've already selected, in case of emergency
2. First-aid kit
3. Something to pass the time on the trip (book, puzzle book, sketchpad, what have you)
4. MP3 player if you don't have access to a personal radio (time can really drag without some tunes)
5. A stash of emergency money hidden somewhere (ideally, enough to get you home)
4 tourist traps or attractions
1. Disneyland or Disneyworld (whichever's closest to you; it's fun!)
2. Universal Studios Florida or California (again, whichever's closest, although the California one has some great extras)
3. Hawaii (yes, the whole place -- it's AMAZING)
4. New York's theater scene (the big theaters or the little ones -- everyone should see a good stage show at least once in their life)
3 places to stay (or to avoid)
1. Have yet to have any real problems with Comfort Inns, so I can recommend them
2. I HAVE had some major cleanliness problems with some Ramadas. Double-check your room with them.
3. Worst place I ever stayed? Little motel in Kansas called "The Happy Hunter Hotel." Dirty rooms, bad service, and I almost got sick the first time I tried their breakfast. Stay FAAAR away.
2 of the most famous or infamous local residents
1. Grocery store clerks can be really helpful if you're nice to them. I've had some give me tips on how to get better rates at hotels, or the best times to go certain places. Being nice makes all the difference!
2. Also, always be kind to the face/costumed characters at theme parks. I've done some reading, and that can be a hard and hot job. A little kindness probably helps a lot with the downsides of such work.
and 1 handy tip to help a traveller keep their money, their health, and their sanity
1. Related to the above -- always be nice to the various "help" you meet. A lot of them can make your stay someplace a lot nicer, easier, and/or cheaper. Making friends is a good way to have a great vacation.
