Drabble Thursday: Adversity

Anna's POV



“What do you want to be when you grow up?” Her brother, Jean Luc, asked their younger brother.

Pierre didn’t say anything for a moment.

“I want to be a lawyer,” Anna said.

Jean Luc started to laugh. He looked at Pierre, who was sucking his thumb.

“What’s so funny?” Anna asked.

“You’re a girl, Anna. They don’t train women.”

She puffed up. “Well why not?”

“It’s just not done, Anna.”

Jean Luc walked off leaving his siblings behind.

Anna turned to Pierre.

“It’s not fair, Pierre.”

Pierre put his arms around her. “I will be one for you, Anna.”
