Twosday: There But For The Grace of God. . .
Twonight, please tell us TWO times you had a 'there but for the grace of' plot device arrive in the nick or (or at the worst possible!) time.
Um, well -- I guess I could say getting accidentally kidnapped by Doc's train could count. At the time, I did consider it a convenient escape from having to marry a total stranger. Nowadays, I feel like it arrived in the nick of time to take me where I'm really supposed to be. A day sooner or later. . .
As for a second time. . . There was a party we were all supposed to go to hosted by my father's friend Mr. Porter. My mother very much wanted me to go so I could mend things with his daughter (the girl I fell on once in public and who accused me of trying to assault her), I very much didn't want to go because I was scared Barbara would tear me apart if I went within ten feet of her. I pleaded with Mother to stay home, but she was firm -- I had to go.
And then I woke up on the day of the party with a terrible cold. It's really the only time I've been anywhere near thankful to be sick. (And I later heard Barbara coldly dismissed my parents at the party, so it's really a good thing I didn't have to see her again.)
