Friday Fear is Near and Dear to Me
In honour of Friday the 13th, let's talk about something scary: phobias. Go here and choose five phobias.
List the five phobias you chose, along with an explanation of why you chose them.
List the five phobias you chose, along with an explanation of why you chose them.
- Mastigophobia: fear of beating. I confess, I don't understand why this is listed as a phobia. Isn't everyone afraid of this? I know I certainly don't anticipating a beating with pleasure. I suppose you could mark me down as having it, then. . .
- Demophobia/Ochlophobia: both fear of crowds. I don’t know if I have this, though it’s easy to think I might. I really don’t like being in large groups of people. I feel -- squeezed, a lot of the time. I really prefer just being with a few close friends.
- Scotophobia: fear of darkness. I'm w-willing to admit this as a phobia of mine. Or, at least, it used to be. I hated the dark when I was a child -- I constantly felt like monsters were lurking in the shadows. These days, I'm much better -- I can stand the dark as long as they're some sort of light source. The moon and stars, a fireplace, even a candle. Just so long as I can see something. The kind of dark where you can't even see your hand in front of your face -- that still t-terrifies me.
- Kakorrhaphiaphobia: fear of failure. I would be willing to admit to possibly having a mild form of this. I hate failing, and I particularly hate disappointing others when I do. I must say, though -- why such a long and complicated word? That's really far too many "hs" in such close proximity.
- Phobophobia: fear of – fear. Wait, what? How does that even work? How can you be afraid of fear? I need a friend who’s a mad psychologist.
