Twosday: That's Not How It's Spelled

Tonight:

Tell us about two times someone has spelled or pronounced your name wrong

And, because we're none of us perfect, tell us about:

Two times you have made a horrible botch of a name.

Well, in two separate jobs -- one at a coffee place, one at a thrift store -- my employer has spelled my last name wrong. The coffee shop guy spelled it "Leach," and it actually took me a couple of minutes to convince him that no, it was spelled like the bloodsucker. (Then he asked me if I didn't think that was gross. I just looked at him, wondering if I could make his head explode.) The thrift store woman had it as "Lurch" once. However, she was hard of hearing and immediately corrected the error when I brought it to her attention.

As for me messing up names. . . I once met a girl while doing a play who spelled her name Abbie. Naturally, the first time I wrote it down, I spelled it with a "y." She was nice in correcting me, though -- I think she'd gotten used to it, honestly. The other incident that comes to mind was at that thrift shop again -- I spent two weeks thinking one of my coworker's names was Carson. Turns out it was Carlton -- our boss strikes again. He just never corrected the misspelling because he actually preferred Carson. Honestly, I'm surprised I remember his real name, 'cause even after we discovered his real name (he had to get it corrected when it showed up wrong on his paycheck), we all called him Carson. I told him before I left that job he should get it legally changed -- wonder if he ever did?
