In honor of American Independence day, show us something that represents your independent spirit, or something you have gained independence from.

A picture of the state I'm currently in, which represents my independent spirit in that I just decided randomly I was gonna spend some time here.
You may all be jealous now.
Because the Revolutionary War went well, the founding fathers are heroes. If it had gone less well....
With this in mind, give us a hundred words inspired by the word traitor.
You know, when I first entered the institution, this is how I thought of my parents. I was furious – how could they do this to me? How could they send me away to an asylum? How could they just leave me here? Didn’t they love me?
Now that I’m older and wiser, I can see how my babbling on about having superpowers – especially one that’s damn near impossible to see – must have scared the crap out of them. I don’t blame them for what they did anymore. I blame me for being too stupid to realize when to shut up.
