Of all the places in the world, Mama wanted to take me to Greece.
"You'll love it there, cherie," she said, using her pet name for me. I used to drop a coin into a box while I listened to her stories about Corfu, the Parthenon, and the beautiful Greek harbors. I knew it was going to happen someday when I was big enough.
That was before Mama's heart disease and the recession while I was in college. When Mama's heart eventually gave out, I knew, I told her, I had to take my own dreams to some other place.
