Saturday: Travelin' & Twosday: Cookin'
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.
-- Maya Angelou
What has traveling done for you lately?
Everything! You people know how much I love to travel. And I like the quote too. Yeah, some people are always going to have their heads up their asses, but I bet going out into the world and seeing how people tend to be alike all over would help with a lot of society's ills. Certainly helped me be more tolerant. And hey -- who doesn't like having an adventure and seeing a new place?
In fact, I have an idea -- everybody should get one free plane/boat/what-have-you ticket to wherever they want to go in the world. (And a free return ticket, of course.) That way everybody can have the chance to travel and meet new people. Who's to say it wouldn't help everybody get along?
Today, tell us about two memorable times you've prepared food. Maybe they're memorable because you set the stove on fire.... or because of who your dinner guest was. Maybe they're memorable because of what was served. Either way... get cookin'!
Um. . .does the first time I made coffee on my own count? Because there was a lot of spillage that day. I knocked over the coffee can, dripped water all over the floor, and managed to slosh the completed cup onto the counter because I overfilled the mug. Plus I didn't brew it properly, so it tasted like ass. Fortunately I'm both a lot better at it these days and able to afford buying coffee made by other people.
There was also my first "making breakfast after a night of lovin'" experience. I thought it would be nice to wake the guy up with some scrambled eggs and toast. He thanked me and gobbled it all down, though later he confessed to me he hated scrambled eggs. I told him he didn't need to eat them just to spare my feelings, but he said it was only polite. Since then I either let the guy or girl make breakfast, or make sure to ask what they like ahead of time.
