Monday writing and why I do it
It never fails. The moment people find out you are a writer, or aspire to be one, they feel compelled to tell you how difficult it is to become a writer. What are some of the most discouraging things you've ever heard about writing?

The only real discouraging things I've heard about writing are:
-"It doesn't pay unless you sell out".
-"You'll get in danger if you write the ugly truth".
I heard the latter one a lot considering my early inclinations as a student journalist. I was never actively discouraged though from writing; I actually get more questions about why I'm in med school instead of being a full-time writer or a journalist.
However I've heard these encouragements:
-"You can change the world".
-"You know how to say the things people can't put into words."
The last one for me is particularly intriguing.
I still want to be a writer though since I love telling stories and I get a serious kick out of words. I tend to unwind also by writing and creating stories; it's a welcome break from memorizing heaps of facts and systems. I also write in order to keep records, and try to provide something to add to posterity.
