Twosday - You've Got My Back
Who is your second in command? What makes them the one person you can always trust to have your back? How did they become your partner/sidekick?
((OOC: Victor has no idea how to answer this, so Doc's filling in for him))
My second in command? Well, I'd say I have two -- my two assistants in the shop, Marty and Victor. Marty does have seniority in this matter, of course. I've known him for longer -- we met back in Hill Valley, when he came to my blacksmith shop looking to get a shoe replaced on his horse. I was in the middle of trying to get my mind-reader to work at the time, and I roped him into being a test subject. The machine didn't work, but it did spark a conversation between me and Marty about some of my other inventions. He seemed so eager to see what I was working on, I ended up offering him a job as my assistant. He accepted, and we rapidly became the best of friends. I know that a friendship between a teenager and an old-timer like me isn't exactly usual, but we have quite a few things in common. Marty enjoys helping me with my inventions, and I like listening to his music. I get the feeling I'm sort of the uncle or grandpa he always wanted to have -- the "cool old guy" if you will. And I know I can always count on him to be there for me. I think the only person he's closer to outside of his biological family is his girlfriend.
As for Victor -- well, he seemed like a nice kid from the moment I met him. Frankly, I don't think anyone else would have been so forgiving of being dragged to the Mad Science Capital of the World underneath a flying steam train. And when I started talking about my hover conversion system, and my plans for time travel, he got that same look in his eye that I always see with Marty. That "this sounds amazing and I want to be a part of it" look. It felt surprisingly natural to offer him a job as well. He's fitted into our little dynamic very well. He's rather shy and daydreamy, but you can always count on him to be there when you really need him. I'm glad we met.
