Munday: Dear Mom
I`m gonna fill this one out for Nikita, because she is the only that has a mother in the traditional sense of the word. Also this applies for the earlier versions of the story as I don`t know if her mother is currently alive or deceased.
1. Is your character's mother alive, or deceased? If alive, what kind of health / shape is she in? If not, how did she die?
Her mother is called Magdalena and is currently 46 years old. She is in perfect health, except for a partially limited usability of her right hand. An attack during her pregnancy with Nikita caused it.
2. Was she married, or a single parent? A young or older woman when she gave birth to your character? How many children does she have?
Magdalena was 19 years old when she gave birth. She got married at 18 to Boris Gusev who is Nikita's father. She raised Nikita with the help of her own mother and father. Due to his line of work Boris was not a constant presence in Nikita's childhood.
3. What sort of mother was she to your character when they were small? How did the relationship change as your char grew up?
Magdalena was a stern mother, always looking over Nikita like a hawk. She imposed many rules and not following them would lead to penalties. That led to Nikita's silent rebellion during her teenager years, where she would absolutely not acknowledge her mother's presence. But currently they share a very close and open relationship.
4. Was there ever / could there ever be a time when your character and mom were more like friends than parent and child?
No, even to this day they treat each other like a parent and a child, but they are able to share their worries and pains. Magdalena is always there to comfort and warm Nikita.
5. If your character has children (or plans to), how did their mother's parenting style influence the character's own? (can be positive or negative influence)
Nikita would probably raise her children the same way Magdalena raised her - strict and authoritative. The only difference would be that she'd demand her husband to participate in the raising. Due to the absence of her father she has come to realize how important a father is.
6. Did mom have any sayings, quirks, or rules that still influence the character's thoughts or behavior?
Nikita was never allowed near knives as a child, so to this day she avoids them. When she cooks she delegates the cutting tasks to her fiancé or someone else in the house. She only touches a knife when absolutely necessary or when asking for someone else to do it would raise too many questions.
Nikita was a lively child so she would often get dirty, thus Magdalena wouldn`t allow her to wear white. Mayonnaise and Ketchup were also out of the question.
Furthermore she has difficulties wearing shoes. As a child she would climb trees all the time, so her shoes would always fall apart - one day her mother just stopped giving her shoes to wear when she went out to play.
7. What role (if any) does your character's mother play in his or her story?
Magdalena used to be the one that would encourage Nikita to follow her heart despite what her brain says... now I`m not sure.
8. Does your relationship with your own mother influence how you write your character's relationship with his or her mother? Why or why not?
Yes, in the sense that they have a close, supporting and loving relationship. No other aspects beyond that.
