Quotable Saturday

Do not speak of your happiness to one less fortunate than yourself.
Plutarch

Have you ever even considered telling an ant that you were happy or unhappy?  No, they could not begining to understand the idea.  Everywhere I look there are unfortunate souls, marching single file like ants, day in and day out.   My happiness is beyond them and their narrow little world.  Only three of these unfortunates will really know my happiness, everything I've made for myself beyond in and despite them, before they are destroyed by it.   They can understand, and they will.

But for now, my happiness is a hidden thing, growing within me.  My happiness is the look in his eyes and his whispers in my ear -- he may be more fortunate than I am, after all.
