Twosday Shocked and Shocking
Tell us about a time somebody shocked/surprised/startled you.... and a time you were the shocker, rather than the shockee.

Oh, that's easy. How about when my parents turned up in Secundus? That was a shock for me, let me tell you. I certainly wasn't expecting them -- especially not while I was trying to help Doc fix the difference engine. Shocking and embarrassing in that case -- they just had to come while I was only half-dressed thanks to my work. . .
Of course, I immediately shocked them back by telling them that no, the letters I'd sent home weren't faked -- that I liked it in Secundus and that I didn't want to leave. They were obviously expecting me to hail them as saviors, not tell them I'd made friends. That's probably why Mother is so insistent that I've been mind-controlled. She can't wrap her head around the fact that I'm happy where I am.
