A.N.: Simple piece about Lucy helping out a fellow actor. And she really does have a point about trying to study something for hours on end, doesn't she? I know it ends up being true for me. . .
“For I – for I--”
“Damn it, Carolyn! Can’t you learn your goddamn lines?!”
Carolyn sniffled. “I’m trying, Mr. Yardman. . . .”
“Trying isn’t good enough! You’re letting everyone else down!”
“Calm down, dude, this isn’t the end of the world,” Lucy said, putting her arm around Carolyn. “When I first started acting, I could barely keep five words in my head.”
“But I should know my lines!” Carolyn cried. “I study them for hours!”
“Yeah, but in my experience, that generally means staring blankly at them after 30 minutes. Why don’t I let you in on a few tricks of the trade. . . .”
