Munday - How Do Others See Victor?

Inspired by the exercises here, your writing challenge for today is to describe how one of your character's supporting cast views your character. Is this in agreement with how your character views him/herself? Radically different?

For bonus points, write a short scene in the POV of the supporting castmember detailing an interaction with your main character.

I feel like being verbose -- let's do a few characters instead of just one, shall we?

Doc: Sees some of a younger him in Victor -- particularly whenever he catches Victor reading in a lonely spot. He thinks Victor is a lot smarter than he thinks he is, and considers him to need some self-esteem. But he also considers Victor quite the pleasant person to be around, and is hoping the job at the shop will help Victor grow a little.

Marty: Basically meshes with Doc's perception -- the guy's way too hard on himself. Marty does consider Victor a little on the naive side, because of his friend's sheltered upbringing, and occasionally he's jealous of the fact Victor grew up in money. But he loves having someone to talk music with (even if Victor's into classical and Marty's trying to invent rock and roll).

Alice: Initially her thoughts consisted of, "Obviously never seen a day of sunlight in his life, looks like he never eats, and seems to be made of nerves. He'll be begging to go back home by the end of the day." Of course, after Victor ended up sticking around, she revised her opinion of him. She still finds it astonishing anyone could be as thin, pale, and nervous as he is. But she appreciates that he's so polite, empathetic, and open-minded. She considers him one of the downright sweetest men she's ever met, and she counts herself lucky to be able to consider him a friend. (Though nowadays, she's realizing that it's a little more than friendship she's feeling toward him. . .not that he's noticed from the point he's from in here, poor oblivious bastard.) I actually wrote a piece on her perspective of him for Winter Bingo, so I'll link that for the bonus points: melt.

William & Nell: Victor's parents -- really don't know what to make of their son. Nell generally finds him a disappointment -- she thinks he could get over his shyness and stuttering if he just tried hard enough. Of course, the main problem with their relationship is that Nell wanted a girl she could raise to be just like her. Getting a son threw her completely, and she kind of resents Victor for being the wrong sex. Not that she's willing to admit this to anyone, even herself. She doesn't hate Victor and honestly doesn't like the idea of seeing him hurt or killed, but she doesn't feel close to him at all.

William's problem is similar yet different. While he doesn't have the hidden resentment about Victor being the wrong sex, he just doesn't understand Victor's personality. He's always been the type to chatter on with people, and the fact that Victor's so quiet most of the time puzzles him. He's also very business-oriented, so he's not sure how to connect with a son who's more artistic. He's closer to Victor then Nell is, but there's a wall there because of William's inability to put himself in his son's shoes. Will just treats Victor with cautious optimism, figuring that one day Victor will suddenly turn into somebody he'll get.
