Odd day
I learned a few things from watching Letterman tonight.
One is that ass almost rhymes with hat. But not quite.
Two is that Denis Leary is a very compassionate person.
Three is that Bryant Gumble is quite probably one of the most boring people on the face of the planet.
We had a confrence with the kids school teachers today. Turns out they were being little miscreants and not doing their work in school, and manipulating us into doing it with them. In an odd way, I'm sort of proud of that. "Aww... it's my kids first getting over on the establishment moment". Of course, being older and smarter (and having done such things many times in my own youth) we found out about it and busted them and laid down the law. But stillf. It was a nearly cool moment.
It was funny being back at my old school, where I graduated 8th grade from about.. oh.. almost 20 years ago. The music teacher remembered me fondly, even though I never could quite play that clarinet. My kids teacher was also my 5th grade teacher, and she was as strong willed and intresting as ever. Some people who taught me had retired, or even died... one the very year after I left, of cancer. That was pretty sad. There was a new addition on the school, so it was bigger than when I went there.
The school is having a meal on the 10th of October to benifit the Red Cross. I might not be healthy enough to donate blood, but eating, I think I can manage. =)
There's also a clothing, food, and hygenic products drive going on at the ambulence hall that I'm going to see if we can rumage some stuff up for. Never know, even though we're sucking empty on monetary suplies until Aus returns to work or the government's disability program gets off it's arse and sends a check- there might be some things we can do to help. I'm certainly going to try.
I wonder if they need books anywhere? We're trying to clean out the library room (to put our books on the shelves - we had tons we brought from KC when we moved- and get rid of books that we've all already read and don't want to read again, or that are of subjects no one likes all that much around our house).
I hate to just throw out books (what a terrible thought!) so I really want to find a home for them. There'll probably be close to a hundred, or maybe more, when I'm done sorting. We have -alot- of books.
Roleplay went well today, for the most part. Had a very intresting Colby/Mirri vs Troll fight. Always amusing. There's been a fuller house lately, now that Summer has faded, and people are wandering back from the great outdoors to play inside again. Heh.
I've got to get some more of my writings together for the Halo site. I've got maybe a quarter of my total works up there now, I just know it. And the rest is so scattered, I'm afraid I might lose some. For the first time in a long time, I want to hold on to everything I've written.
I can't believe our Neopets guild is up to almost 1100 members. Spiffy. And I thought it would just be a few friends. Heh. Almost every day we get some request for free stuff, or graphic design, or something equaly inane that we don't have time for. Advice is free. Stuff isn't. =) Another funny thing is due to the high number of users on Neopets (which numbers in the millions) ,most of my fan mail and exposure comes from people who have read my stories in the Neopian Times. Huh. Go figure. Not bad, not bad.
I'm going to go to bed now and stop rambling in this. Heh. Well, one more thing.
The chiropractor says I need to stop watching the tragedy coverage and avoid other stressful things as its impeding the healing in my back. Huh. Well, I guess that would involve moving to a comune or learning to meditate, or having my father suddenly become un-arseholic. All of those are fairly unlikely.
