Shades of Grey

As I'm getting back into novel writing mode- these little poems about some of my characters evolved. They're not all here- some of them didn't 'speak' to me, and therefore, didn't get included.


I.
Sanguine drops along
her surface roll in
languid revolutions
Consider Celia as
relative surface,
regard merrily her
slats and turns.

II.
Aaron, opening the peel,
formed inside
all living damaged
by how easy he became
vulnerable to life

III.
this permanent personal illumination
Lucian in the garden
elegance in centrifugal snap-dragons
and wildflowers strewn
kaleidoscopic

IV,
oaks worship the wind
whisper prayers with leaves
stout pines remain tall guardians
Charlie, never broken
an elephantine protector crashing
through the wood

V.

Karen , aging, savors youth
in shuddering sips
ravening devourer
tasting Norse fields and
Viking seas in every crimson drop
