Thanks, John! Disappearance of Rituals was actually one of the first of Han's books that I read (https://cgbrooke.substack.com/p/lets-give-them-something-to-talk), along with Infocracy. At some point, I should probably read his entire library, rather than tackling his books intermittently. I always find connections to the things that I write about...
Re AI, I'll get into this a little more down the road, but I think you're identifying a parallel between the way that LLMs conceive of writing and the way that Pepsi "engineered" their product to excel in the sip test. And I think that's right - I'd be interested to hear you say more, maybe as it intersects with what Han describes as "deep attention" in Disappearance...
Fabulous read.
I’m reading the disappearance of rituals right now. Highly recommend if you haven’t yet.
Being impressed with AI writng feels like a sip taste, no? First instance and even read through: seems amazing.
Sit with it and it gets way worse.
