The education system sucks. I've been reading a book which is a study into how and why the education system sucks. It stated many problems I noticed growing up... only the book was dated '1993'.
o.O *mind boggles*
Well, I'm glad to see that we're in just as ill a state of affairs as were were TEN FRICKIN' YEARS AGO!
I feel rather... grim about how uneducated people are these days. And, you know, it's not really anyone in particular's fault. Most people just don't care anymore. It really struck me today when the name 'Rosseau' came up in my therapy session today.
Me: "Rosseau? The painter or the philosopher?"
Therapist: "You know the philosopher Rosseau?"
Me: "Um, duh?"
Therapist: "That very unusual for someone your age."
Is it? Well, I guess it is. But I don't really *think* about it. Agh, lost my point and purpose. Ect.
The book bothered me, however, because it deemed comics to be very low on the intellectual scale in terms of reading material. I mean, yeah, granted most comics are as much a load of crap as daytime TV, but, but, but... I've just picked up ElfQuest again and realized that it contains deeper characters, themes and sociopolitical standpoints than most novels I've read this year. Whoever says that comics are "dumb" has obviously never read anything by Osamu Tazuka. Or Neil Gaiman for that matter. ^ ^
Comics are just another medium woefully mis- and under- used.
Well, that's enough pretentious ranting for one day.
Hmm... seems I had more to say, but it's all slipped away.
Heh, that rhymed. ^ ^
