Listens: The Saftey Dance; Men in Hats

Fire, fire, fire. I'm no pyromaniac. I swear. o___O

Lici finally figured out how to do extended flash on her camera, so I've finally got some decent fire busking photos for any of you who were curious. Thus, for your viewing pleasure, I present to my flist- THE COURT OF ILLUMINATION! A brief introduction in pictures.

And, yeah, there are a LOT of pictures under the cut. Be wary.

TEASER:

Rebecca and I do this bit where she jumps over my rope dart, and then immediately ducks under it. This is us coming out of the jump- I like this picture because my rope dart looks like it's encircling me- which it probably isn't. o__O And Rebecca's in a kinda funny, quasi Marilyn Manroe pose.

I hit the ground a lot because I suck.

Uh, rope dart is cool. ^___^ And we have no audience. T___T

I'm so tough. o__O

Sorry- these, are, like the first pictures ever taken that make my rope dart look cool. I'm just enjoying how cool it looks. ^_____^

See- my gimmick is that I'm only five feet tall. A lot of people seem to find rope dart boring at times since it's only one flame while Poi is two, however when I do rope dart all of a sudden it's the most amazing thing in the world because the audience spends the entire time convinced I'm going to kill myself. Well, y'know, whatever gets them to put money in the hat...

I'm only including this picture because it looks like the top half of my body isn't connected to the bottom half.

OMG! It's coming RIGHT AT YOU! This picture is about as dynamic as it's going to get when it comes to me. T___T

ROPE DART IS REALLY LONG.

SEE, REALLY LONG. The person doing cooler stuff in front of me is Rebecca.

I just think this picture is cool looking for no apparent reason. ^____^

I was trying to convince some random people that what we were doing was, like, the COOLEST thing evar. Rebecca was just kind of flailing her arms at me. And yet, thanks to THE MAGIC OF EXTENDING FLASH! even audience coaxing manages to look like a work of art!

And thus, we have learned that despite the fact I put myself in danger by wrapping a nine-foot long rope/chain that happens to be on fire AROUND MY NECK, rope dart invariable just looks like a BIG CIRCLE on film.

Now, lets get to the realy impressive stuff...

And here's Leslie. She does poi like she's out to kill someone- fast and furious. And yeah. Whoo. Leslie.

I can't figure out what the hell that random flare above her spinning wheel thing is. I think it might be my rope dart, but I honestly can't tell. o__O

Haha. Leslie has no head and too many arms. ^___^

Yeah, so poi looks really cool in photographs...

I think that she might actually be doing something really lame right here. But in busking, the easiest, lamest moves are, unfortunately, always the most crowd pleasing. -___-;;

And here's the fan favorite- the audience always goes wild when Leslie does this, despite the fact that it's apparently, like, the easiest thing ever.

Once again, too many limbs.

This picture is just wicked looking. And, hey, that's an actual MOVE. No flailing, just real TECHNIQUE.

Andy took this picture from directly underneath Leslie. Just... holy fuck. o__O

Here's Leslie spinning with Lindsay- Linz isn't in our troupe, but she's a very talented fire spinner in her own right, although she prefers neon-colored LED lights. ^____^

This picture is just interesting because it's taken in the DAYLIGHT and actually looks half decent.

While Leslie channels all her martial arts training and natural athleticism into her poi spinning, Lici's poi style is more like a dance than anything. Part of what makes our show so interesting is how wildly different their spinning styles are- you can even tell from the still shots!

Lici doing everyone's favorite move, the BUTTERFLY (also, I note, the ONLY poi move I am capable of).

Lici always looks really awesome doing poi in photos. T___T

This picture is just cool because it looks like she's doing two different moves at the same time. o__O

Giving "flaming wings" to a brave audience member- I swear, this one woman watched us for, like, an HOUR. She was middle aged and thanks to watching us, decided that she wanted to pick up fire arts. We gave her some information on how to get started- see, we don't just corrupt children!

Carming facial expression, Alycya.

Pinwheel... otherwise known as the "boob burner". NOT THAT LICI HAS ANY. XD

So apparently these guys walked by our show tonight as Lici was performing and were all like: "IT'D BE COOLER IF SHE DID IT SHIRTLESS!" Well, at least we have ONE target demographic covered.

^_____^

For some reason, we have a LOT of pictures of Lici and Rebecca performing together. It's actually a good mix- both of them put a lot of dance into their performance.

More Lici and Rebecca...

... and MORE...

Rebecca preparing to SET LESLIE'S ARM ON FIRE!!!!11!eleventy!!1 Actually, they're just doing contact fire... which isn't EXACTLY the same thing...

Rebecca always has the coolest dramatic poses...

I have no idea what the hell is going on in this picture, but it looks AWESOME.

This picture is really dramatic for no reason, even though Rebecca's looking at Leslie with a great: "WTF" face.

I think this might actually be my favorite of the latest Rebecca pictures. ^____^

Rebecca going into one of her awesome dramatic poses.

Gah, this picture is so freaking amazing- it looks at if the fire is dancing AROUND her- it's like some chitzy fantasy novel cover! ^____^

Her fans randomly look like birds in this picture. o__O

Rebecca and Leslie, being accidently coordinated.

Leslie gives Rebecca the FLAMING WINGS OF DOOM. Wait, I meant... FLAMING WINGS OF... HEALTHY AND SCAR FREE LIVING.

Even though she isn't in the troupe, we did get some awesome pictures with Lindsay- her flames look like octagons in this picture.

Rebecca, Lindsay and a crapload of flames.

I'm always banished to the back of the performance. T___T Well, it's all for the better because I'd hit people otherwise...

Hey, it's all three arts in our busking troupe being performed simultaneously!

Lici's poi in front looks like a dragon. ^______^

And, uh, that's it. Currently, we're performing shows almost every night of the week pretty much... until I go away, I suppose. We're attempting to do our best to raise money for the Buskers Festival since it lost it's government funding this year (NEVER MIND THAT IT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST TOURIST REVENUE DRAW IN THE ENTIRE FUCKING PROVINCE). So far... I'm not sure how effective we've been- we've made about $160 so far ($80 in one night- which is pretty damn good for just going on the street at random times with no pre planning and a crappy sound system). We've tried to get the local news down to see us, but I'm not sure they take us seriously. We're trying to get in contact with the Busker Festival Administration to see if their willing to pimp us so we can make them more money.

But even if, in the end, we don't make a huge difference it's the tought that counts. Plus, it's good experience. I mean- at least now we know that we aren't just okay buskers- we are freaking KICK ASS buskers. I swear, not only are we now able to stop large, migrating crowds from moving for a few minutes, we also gather crowds that stay for fifteen minutes to half an hour. Not to mention the random fangirls/boys we invariably collect at every session- different sets of people who stay for HOURS chatting us up, asking us about fire arts and then dropping large bills into our hat.

So yeah, everything I own may reek of lamp oil and I may never get this soot out from underneath my fingernails, but I still love fire busking with all my heart and soul. Goddamnit, I want us to be in the Festival next year so badly I can tasteit.

OH, AND THIS IS FOR YOU, HANNAH!
